Refrontolo offers several distinct things to discover: the Molinetto della Croda waterfall mill, trails through gentle hills, and historic buildings with views across the Quartier dei Piave and Felettano. When choosing a hotel, you can consider whether you are most interested in experiencing the watermill, the hilly landscape, or local history and culture.

Molinetto della Croda: The Mill and Planning Your Visit

The outdoor area in front of the waterfall and the Molinetto della Croda are freely accessible all year round. The outdoor area and ground floor are also open to everyone free of charge; opening times for the indoor spaces depend on the season and the availability of volunteer helpers.

A small museum in the Molinetto explains the history and techniques of using watermills. The building also hosts various exhibitions and art shows. At special events organized by volunteers, the waterwheel and millstone are operated. Visitors can also watch a demonstration of the Molinetto grinding cornmeal.

Allow 30 to 60 minutes for a visit; the duration may vary depending on the program. Groups must book by phone. They must provide their arrival date, arrival time, and number of visitors. Check the visiting conditions before your trip. From March to the end of October, picnic facilities are available in the outdoor areas at the Molinetto.

Trails Through Hills and Gorges

Refrontolo has a network of trails through gentle hills. They lead to old mills, lignite mines, and karst caves. A nature trail runs near the waterfall at the Molinetto della Croda. There are striking rocky gorges along the Crevada stream.

These destinations offer different highlights for an outing: the nature trail is by the waterfall, while the network of trails leads to other scenic and historic sites.

Tempietto Spada and Architectural History

A footpath leads from Refrontolo’s piazza to Tempietto Spada. The structure was built around 1884 and rebuilt in 1992; it is dedicated to Madonna del Carmelo. Tempietto stands at an exceptional viewpoint with a 360-degree view across the Quartier dei Piave and Felettano.

Villa Spada has its own architectural history: construction began in the second half of the 17th century and was completed in the late 19th century. At that time, the villa passed to the Spada family. Refrontolo’s parish church is documented as far back as the 11th century. It was originally a chapel dependent on the Pieve di San Pietro di Feletto. In the second half of the 15th century, it was rebuilt and became a parish church; its bell tower dates from 1613.

Wine Exhibition and Dates

The Mostra del vino Prosecco e Refrontolo Passito D.O.C. takes place between late April and early May. Exact event dates may vary; check them before your trip. The annual wine exhibition is held on the ground floor of the Barchessa of Villa Spada and also extends to the outdoor portico.
