San Trovaso: Villa, Sanctuary and Memorial Sites
Accommodation in San Trovaso
A villa, sanctuary, church and war memorial represent different themes: their histories range from the church of S. Trovaso being mentioned in 1170 to a work of art created in 1845–1846. Together, they help place the area in context through its architectural history, cultural role, sacred art and culture of remembrance.
Villa Albrizzi Franchetti
Villa Albrizzi Franchetti was built between 1680 and 1700 on the Terraglio road, at San Trovaso. At the end of the 18th century, under Isabella Teotochi Albrizzi, it became an important cultural meeting place. The construction period and cultural role belong to different chapters of its history: one places the building’s construction in context, while the other describes its later significance. When considering the villa as part of the area’s history, you can distinguish between the building’s origins and its role as a cultural meeting place.
Madonna delle Grazie: Architecture and Art
The Madonna delle Grazie sanctuary is in the locality of Le Grazie in San Trovaso. The sanctuary church was rebuilt on its original walls in 1775 at the initiative of the Albrizzi family. The family gave the church its cruciform layout; two identical bell towers stand on either side of the building. The ceiling features a coffered panel depicting the Madonna Immacolata, created by Giambattista Carrer in 1845–1846. Thus, the dates 1775 and 1845–1846 relate to different parts of the history: the first marks the church’s reconstruction, and the later dates the creation of the artwork. The name Albrizzi also appears in San Trovaso in different contexts: in connection with the villa’s cultural role and with the reconstruction and design of the sanctuary church.
Church of S. Trovaso and War Memorial
A papal bull from 1170 mentions the church of S. Trovaso. The date refers to this mention and does not necessarily indicate when the church was built. The war memorial in San Trovaso offers a different historical perspective: it commemorates those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. Its inscription reads “SAN TROVASO PERPETUA AI SUOI CADUTI”. In this way, an early written record and a memorial explicitly dedicated to both world wars stand side by side.
Cycling and Walking Route
A protected cycling and walking route between San Trovaso and Le Grazie is planned as an alternative to State Road 13, the “Terraglio”. The municipal plan specifies connections to Preganziol in the south and Treviso in the north. It includes both completed and planned sections, so the route should not be understood as fully complete throughout. If you plan to use this proposed route, check its current alignment and the status of the sections.
The historical sites offer different points of interest: the villa represents a cultural role, Madonna delle Grazie architecture and sacred art, and the church and memorial written records and remembrance. If you are looking for a hotel in San Trovaso, this distinction can help you plan your stay around the historical interests that matter most to you.
