Miane: Churches, Hiking Trails and Nature
Accommodation in Miane
For a stay in Miane, two main themes stand out: the history of several churches and trails that vary in the time they take. The religious buildings reflect different functions and eras; the routes range from an easy hill trail averaging four hours to a full-day tour. The nature trail adds vineyards, mixed forest and the landscape around Pecol Molin to the picture. You can plan your visit around history, scenery or the time you have available.
Churches in Miane: Building History and Art
The Chiesa campestre di San Pietro dates back to 1300 and was Miane’s first parish church. The campanile next to the Chiesa Arcipretale di Miane was built in 1400 as a watchtower; it was later converted into a bell tower. The early history of the parish and the tower’s change of function thus represent two distinct aspects. The Chiesa Arcipretale itself was built between 1874 and 1878. Its organ is the work of Gaetano Callido. The paintings include a Natività, which, according to a traditional account, was painted by Dall’Oglio, and the Purificazione della Beata Vergine by Bellucci di Soligo.
The Santuario Madonna del Carmine can also be traced through several construction phases: it was built in 1819, expanded in 1828, and given its present-day choir in 1896. The sanctuary also houses an old image of the Madonna dei Pastori. The Chiesa-Santuario di Ronch is dedicated to the Madonna Addolorata and was built between 1830 and 1840. At Ronch, the dedication and construction period are specified; at Carmine, several distinct construction phases are the focus.
Hiking Trails by Duration and Elevation
The Itinerario delle chiesette is an easy, 13.5-kilometre hill route with 300 metres of elevation gain and an average duration of four hours. The longer Itinerario delle malghe e casere starts at the Santuario Madonna del Carmine at an elevation of 476 metres, reaches ridgelines at an average elevation of 1,200 to 1,300 metres, and takes a full day including breaks. The two durations distinguish an average four-hour hike from a full-day itinerary; the starting point and elevation are also specified for the longer route.
The mountain biking route from Miane starts at the parking areas next to the town hall, heads towards Combai and reaches the old road to the Santuario Madonna del Carmine.
Vineyards, Mixed Forest and Water at Pecol Molin
The Itinerario naturalistico 5 passes through vineyards and mixed forests. The trees and shrubs mentioned along the route include chestnuts, poplars, European hop-hornbeams, hazels, elder trees, pedunculate oaks, cherry trees and birches. The trail also leads to Pecol Molin, where a stream flows year-round and there is a waterfall. For those choosing a route based on scenery, this trail has a different focus from those described by duration or elevation: here, vegetation and water take centre stage.
