Villa di Villa – Viticulture and Cultural History
Accommodation in Villa di Villa
Villa di Villa lies among gentle hills at the foot of the Trevisan Prealps. This provides a clear sense of the landscape when choosing a place to stay. The area also features vineyards between Villa di Villa and Cordignano, as well as cultural and historical landmarks: Villa Mocenigo and an early medieval burial ground. These themes offer different starting points for planning your trip, from the landscape and viticultural tradition to layers of history.
Hillside Setting and Viticultural Tradition
High-quality wine is produced on the sunny hillsides between Cordignano and Villa di Villa. In Villa di Villa, knowledge of viticulture has been passed down through generations. Various grape varieties are grown in the local area; Prosecco DOCG is also part of the regional wine-growing context. This brings together the use of the hillsides, a tradition of inherited knowledge and a specific example of local wine. When planning your trip, viticulture is a distinct focus alongside the history of individual buildings: it describes both the landscape and a local cultural tradition.
Villa Mocenigo and Early History
Villa Mocenigo in Villa di Villa dates back to the mid-17th century. Inside, it has a theatre where Carlo Goldoni staged the comedy “La semplice in cerca di spirito.” The building thus combines a clearly dated history of construction with a specific connection to the theatre. Unlike viticulture, this history focuses on a single building; the theatre and performance add a cultural landmark to its period of construction.
There is also an early medieval burial ground in the Villa di Villa area. It is attributed to a small rural population of Romanized local people from the 6th to 7th centuries AD. This dates back considerably further than the mid-17th century, when Villa Mocenigo was built. The two landmarks therefore differ in both period and nature: the burial ground is an archaeological trace attributed to a population group, while the villa is a later building with a connection to the theatre.
Circular Route from Cordignano
A circular route reaches Villa di Villa from Cordignano via the “strada vecchia” and crosses the fords of the Obole and Insuga streams along the way. It then descends to the 17th-century Villa Mocenigo and continues through vineyards. The route links the way from Cordignano and the stream fords with a historic building and the wine-growing landscape. For planning your trip, the circular route offers a different perspective from the individual historical landmarks: it brings landscape and culture together along a named route. Fords are places where streams can be crossed.
