Things to do in Paderno del Grappa range from an easy hike by the Lastego stream and a forest trail to the remains of a medieval castle, to two via ferratas and a cycling and walking path through several municipalities. The routes differ in their course, destinations, and available planning details. You can tailor your trip depending on whether you prefer hiking, taking on a via ferrata, or exploring a longer cycling and walking route.

Hiking by the Lastego Stream

The easy hike “B – Paderno and the Ezzelini Trail” starts in Paderno by the Lastego stream. It is 5.50 kilometers long, has 150 meters of elevation gain, and takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. These details can help you fit the hike into your day’s plans. Check the trail conditions locally before setting out.

Along the route are the parish church of Paderno, the old Church of San Paolo, a small waterfall and an old mill by the Lastego stream, as well as Villa Fietta. The hike therefore connects several distinct attractions along a single route: the churches, places by the stream, and the villa are all among the listed stops.

Forest Trail to the Ruins of Col Muson

Route C, “Le Motte and Col Muson,” also starts in Paderno. It passes through the surrounding forests to the ruins of the medieval castle of Col Muson, where you can enjoy an impressive view over the valley. Unlike Route B, with its several attractions, this hike focuses on the forest trail, castle ruins, and valley views. If you’re choosing between the two trails, these different highlights can help guide your decision.

Via Ferratas in the Lastego Valley and at San Liberale

The Ferrata dei Sass Brusai runs from Paderno through the Lastego Valley to the Chapel of Saints Liberale and Vitale. It gains around 350 meters in elevation along the southern ridge of Sass Brusai. A second via ferrata, Carlo Guzzella, starts in San Liberale: it first follows a forest road, then a wooded ridge towards the rugged rock faces of the Napon. The routes offer different landmarks to help you plan: the valley and chapel on one, the forest road, ridge, and rock faces on the other.

Check the conditions on each route before setting out. For the Carlo Guzzella via ferrata, it is also advisable to check local equipment requirements. This lets you take the specific conditions of each route into account as you prepare, without treating the two routes as the same.

Cycling and Walking Path Through Several Municipalities

“Sui Sentieri degli Ezzelini” along the Muson is a 40-kilometer cycling and walking path. It runs mostly along the Muson River and partly along the Musonello. The municipalities it passes through include Riese Pio X, Loria, Castello di Godego, Castelfranco Veneto, Resana, Crespano del Grappa, Paderno del Grappa, Fonte, and Asolo. Paderno is therefore one stop on a route connecting several municipalities. At San Liberale, in the municipality of Paderno, “Sui Sentieri degli Ezzelini” meets the Grappa routes again. For your plans, this route offers another way to complement the hiking and via ferrata options with a longer cycling and walking connection.

Church History and Regional Context

The parish church of Paderno is named the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or Chiesa parrocchiale dell’Annunciazione della Beata Maria Vergine in Italian. The first document attesting to its existence dates to 1297: it is a papal tithe payment associated with the Pieve di San Pietro di Fonte. The year marks the first written record, not the year the church was built. On February 25, 1695, it was badly damaged by a major earthquake and subsequently rebuilt. Two different chapters in its history stand out: its early written mention and its rebuilding after the earthquake.

The regional context also includes Pieve del Grappa. It lies at the foot of Monte Grappa, between the hills of the Asolo area and the Venetian plain, and brings together the heritage of the villages of Crespano, Paderno, and Fietta. This regional perspective complements the local trails and historical landmarks with a wider view of the surrounding landscape.
