Cimadolmo stretches for more than 7 kilometres along the left bank of the Piave; 50 percent of its area lies within the river’s embankments. These figures give the town a distinctive landscape. The area also features historic waterworks, traces of older routes, and cultural and sports facilities. When planning a trip, you can consider the landscape, local history and events as separate points of interest.

River landscape and trails near Grave di Papadopoli

The Strada dell'Asparago Bianco di Cimadolmo IGP leads to Grave di Papadopoli. There, nature trails pass through the Piave ecosystem. Trail conditions may vary, so check them before planning a visit. Two road bridges connect the Grave di Papadopoli area with both banks of the Piave. They were built in the 1970s. If you are planning to drive there, check road conditions separately.

Waterworks and historical traces

The large Cimadolmo embankment was built between 1884 and 1886 to protect the settlements on the left bank of the Piave. Older routes are also part of the area’s history: a ferry had been operating in Madorbo since Roman times. Near the old ferry landing is an Austrian hydrometer dating from 1832.

In Stabiuzzo, there is evidence of a Roman military station along the Via Postumia. The old Church of San Silvestro in Cimadolmo was repeatedly destroyed by floods in the 15th and 16th centuries. These places and structures represent different aspects of history, from Roman times to the community’s relationship with the river.

In San Michele di Piave, the Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo houses a work by the painter known as El Greco, dated to the late 16th century. If you would like to visit the church, check its opening arrangements separately.

Festivals and local events

The events calendar offers several occasions at different times of the year. The Pro Loco di Cimadolmo holds the Festa dell’Asparago Bianco IGP di Cimadolmo every year in April and May. Sport al Centro takes place every September at Cimadolmo’s sports facilities; the Pro Loco also holds the Festa del Pesce e delle Nostre Acque every September. The exact dates of these festivals vary from year to year. Check the relevant events calendar when planning your trip.

The three-day Sagra dei Amoi features performances as well as live and DJ music, and appeals to all age groups. The programme may change. A regular meeting place that complements the events calendar is the weekly market: it takes place on Tuesdays in Piazza Martiri della LibertĂ  and offers fresh local produce. Individual vendors may vary.

Library and sports facilities

The Biblioteca comunale “G. Agostinetti” has reading areas for children and young people, adults, and the Venetian tradition. Once a month, the library holds dramatic readings for children on a Saturday. As the programme may change over time, it is worth checking the current calendar before visiting.

Cimadolmo’s sports facilities on Via dello Sport include a straight athletics track, a large natural-grass football pitch, an uncovered grandstand and adjoining changing rooms. There are also two artificial-turf courts for futsal and tennis, as well as a sports hall. The annual Sport al Centro sports festival takes place at these facilities in September; the event date varies from year to year.
