Discover Pedavena: Monte Avena, trails and culture
Accommodation in Pedavena
Pedavena offers different ways to enjoy a trip: routes in the municipal area, walks on Monte Avena, cultural sites and the Fabbrica in Pedavena. For planning, it helps to know the specific differences: most of the routes described by the municipality are circular and can be walked year-round; brewery visits are possible by prior reservation.
Circular Routes and Walks on Monte Avena
Most of the routes described by the Municipality of Pedavena can be walked year-round. They run mainly within the municipal area and are circular routes, with the same start and finish point. A circular route therefore returns you to your starting point; this differs from a route with a separate endpoint. Some routes are also suitable for mountain biking.
In summer, Monte Avena is used for walks through extensive pastures. The mountain also attracts people interested in free flight. The Anello del Monte Avena is marked with white and blue directional arrows bearing its name. Magna e Cammina offers a different experience: this 7-kilometre walking trail passes through forests and across the mountain pastures of Monte Avena, with four tasting stops for local specialities.
Pian d’Avena and the Park
At the foot of the Vette Feltrine, Pian d’Avena is home to the park’s information and refreshment point. There are picnic tables, barbecue fire pits, toilets and information about the park. The facilities offer both a place to take a break and practical information about the park.
Villa Pasole and the Sanctuary Above Facen
Villa Pasole was built on the ruins of an ancient castle. It was the home of the Accademia degli Erranti, a circle of intellectuals and artists. The villa thus brings together its architectural origins and cultural role.
The Santuario dei Santi Tiburzio e Susanna lies on Monte Avena above Facen, at an altitude of 929 metres. It can be reached from Facen via a steep path, so take this access route into account when planning your visit. The sanctuary has very ancient origins and was probably built on the ruins of an ancient watchtower.
The Feast of Fonte di Santa Susanna takes place on 11 August. Members of the Facen community walk to the sanctuary for the occasion. Archaeology is also part of Monte Avena’s history: a small number of Middle Palaeolithic (Mousterian) artefacts were found at the site, made by Neanderthals about 60,000 years ago.
Visiting the Fabbrica in Pedavena
Visits to the Fabbrica in Pedavena are possible year-round by prior reservation. You can allow about 60 minutes in your day: the tour includes the brewhouse and the historical museum, where old tools, machines and equipment are on display.
The Mercatini nel Parco Birreria Pedavena offer another way to discover local products. There you can browse and buy local and handcrafted products. This makes them different from the tasting stops included along the Magna e Cammina walking trail.
