Museum and mountain history

The Museo Marmolada Grande Guerra 3000 m is located at an altitude of 3,000 metres on the second floor of the Serauta cable car station. Its 300-square-metre exhibition covers the soldiers’ lives and the harsh conditions of warfare in the high mountains. At the lower end of the Serrai are two galleries carved into the rock, built during the First World War to store ammunition and explosives. The exhibition sheds light on the soldiers’ lives, while the galleries are presented in terms of their military function as storage facilities. The small Chiesa di Sant'Antonio dei Serrai is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua; a mass is celebrated there every year on 13 June.
