Calzolaro is a hamlet in the municipality of Umbertide (PG). A historic village festival, a CAI circular walk, local history and Umbrian cuisine offer different reasons to visit. It is also important to note the difference in timing when planning your trip: Calzolarissimo takes place every year, whereas the specific PesceRun details refer to its first edition in 2012.

Calzolarissimo and PesceRun

The Festa di Calzolarissimo is a historic village festival in Calzolaro. For Calzolarissimo, held from 16 to 19 June 2022, Pro Loco Calzolaro was named as the organiser; the festival took place in the hamlet of Calzolaro, in the municipality of Umbertide. Calzolarissimo in Calzolaro was announced as the 46th edition for 2026.

The first PesceRun in Calzolaro was organised in 2012 by Pro Loco and SocietĂ  Sportiva Calzolaro, with support from the Marathon Club CittĂ  di Castello, to mark the 35th edition of the Sagra del pesce-Calzolarissimo. The PesceRun course was 6.8 km long, mostly flat, and ran mainly on asphalt, with short sections on unpaved surfaces. This historic running route is therefore defined primarily by its length and surface, while the CAI walk is characterised above all by its circular route, course and scenery.

Circular Walk and Scenery

The CAI walk “Calzolaro–Comunaglia–Belvedere alla Rocca–Santuario di Rasina–Calzolaro,” described in 2015, starts at the car park opposite the preschool in Calzolaro. It is a circular route that returns to its starting point. Through Comunaglia, the path offers views of the valley, as well as characteristic farmsteads and rural buildings in the surrounding area.

If you value returning to your starting point after a walk, you can use the circular route as a practical criterion when planning your trip. The named places and landscapes also give an idea of the features highlighted along the way.

Local History and Church

Calzolaro’s development is also linked to changes in the surrounding area. In the 1950s, many residents left Pieve di Comunaglia because of the agricultural crisis and the emergence of the first industrial enterprises, moving to the valley; this contributed to Calzolaro’s further development. This historical connection links changes in agriculture and the beginnings of industrial activity with the movement of people to the valley.
