Montepennino offers different ways to plan a trip: a longer cycling tour through wine country, culinary visits, and two churches with their own connections to art and religious history. When choosing a hotel, it is worth first considering whether cycling routes, tastings, or the art and dedication history of the churches are your main interests. This helps you distinguish between your travel interests before looking for a suitable hotel.

Cycling tour through vineyards and olive groves

The “Montefalco e Bevagna tra vigne e cantine” cycling tour is almost 70 kilometers long. It descends from Montefalco toward Bevagna and passes through Montepennino. For several kilometers, it follows the Strada del Sagrantino through prized vineyards and centuries-old olive groves.

For planning your trip, the length, direction, and landscape offer separate points of reference: the distance indicates the scale, Montefalco and Bevagna indicate the direction, and vineyards and old olive groves characterize part of the route. At almost 70 kilometers, this is a cycling excursion in its own right, not a short walk around the village.

Tastings and farm visits

At the La Veneranda winery, red wines are paired with products made on site. The tasting includes capocollo, bocconcello, bruschetta, Crostino della Veneranda, salami, dried salsiccia, aged pecorino, red wine jelly, and tozzetti. The offering is therefore characterized not only by the wine but also by its named accompaniments. The selection may change; if particular products are important to you, ask about the current offering before your visit.

Fattoria Giorgetti is located on Via Montepennino in Montefalco. The farm organizes visits either accompanied by a farmer or self-guided; both formats conclude with a tasting. The difference is therefore in the type of visit, not in whether a tasting is included. At La Veneranda, the focus is on red wine and the accompaniments listed above; at Fattoria Giorgetti, it is on a farm visit followed by a tasting.

Churches, art and history

The Church of the Santissima TrinitĂ  lies downhill from the center of Montepennino, near the turnoff for Bevagna. It features a painting attributed to Francesco Melanzio and dated to the early 16th century. For travelers interested in art, the work offers a specific historical connection, while the location places the church in relation to the town center and the turnoff.

The small Church of Sant’Antonio is on the road that descends from Montepennino toward Foligno, at the junction with the old road to Montefalco. It was originally dedicated to the Madonna degli Angeli. The two churches therefore differ both in their stated road locations and in their historical associations: at the Santissima Trinità, the art connection is the painting attributed to Melanzio; at Sant’Antonio, it is the original dedication.
