When looking for hotels in Abetone, you can plan your trip around the activities that are the main focus here: winter sports, cycling or local history. In winter, the options described range from ski slopes and cross-country skiing to snowshoeing; there is also an e-bike route with a stated distance, approximate duration and moderate difficulty level. The historic monument in the town centre offers a different focus.

Skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing

The Abetone Val di Luce ski area has 50 km of slopes and 17 lift facilities. These include chairlifts, drag lifts, cable cars and moving carpets. This makes it possible to distinguish the focus on winter sports from the other elements of a trip: here, the emphasis is on ski slopes and several types of lift. If you make skiing your main focus, these offerings will be central to your plans.

There are also options tailored to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The cross-country circuits at Abetone Gravity Park start at the base of the gondola lift and range in length from 5 to 30 km. This range lets you choose according to distance. The Pista del Maiori starts 200 m from Piazza dell’Abetone and is suitable for both classic and skating techniques, as well as snowshoeing. It therefore offers three explicitly named ways to use the trail in one location. If you are planning to go cross-country skiing, you can choose between the Gravity Park circuits and the techniques available on the Pista del Maiori; snowshoeing is also an option on this trail.

E-bike route to Lago Nero

Another specific tour is the Abetone–Lago Nero–Abetone e-bike route. It is 18 km long, takes approximately 3 hours and is rated as moderately difficult. Distance, duration and difficulty level answer different planning questions: the number of kilometres indicates the route length, the approximate time gives you an idea of how the day might be planned, and the rating describes the stated difficulty level. Since the duration is approximate, treat it as a guide. This means you can consider this tour using criteria different from those for ski slopes or cross-country routes.

Piramidi dell’Abetone and local history

The Piramidi dell’Abetone stand in the town centre at an altitude of 1,375 m. They were built to commemorate the opening of the Abetone Pass and visibly marked the historic border between Tuscany and the Duchy of Modena. The monument thus brings together two historical associations: the memory of the pass opening and its former role as a border. Its location and altitude place the structure in the town centre, while its history also points beyond the town to the pass.

The Museo dello Sci di Abetone also has a connection to skiing. During the 2026 season, it could be visited from 2 July to 31 August, Tuesday to Sunday, from 5 pm to 7 pm. If you are travelling in a later season, check the opening dates that apply then.

Getting there from Pistoia

This gives you both a specific route for getting your bearings and a range of activity options.
