Vervò between the Plateau and Excursion Destinations

Vervò lies on a green terrace at the edge of the Predaia Plateau. If you are looking for a hotel in Vervò, this setting is a first point of reference, but the area’s attractions give your trip specific themes: trails through forests, views over Val di Non, and traces of several eras. You can plan your stay around whether you would rather focus on an outdoor route or on the archaeological and ecclesiastical history of San Martino.

Walking Trails with Different Highlights

The Sentiero Romano starts in Vervò, more precisely in the hamlet of Verginaz, and leads to Mas del Mont. It includes a small Tibetan bridge. From a terrace, the trail offers views over lower Val di Non and the Brenta Dolomites. Along the route is an equipped park with benches and fire pits. The destination, bridge, viewpoint, and picnic area each provide a distinct point of interest along this route.

Sette Fontane offers a different choice of trail: the route connects Vervò and Sfruz along forest roads through the spruce forests of Tovalin and Somassolo. It starts above Vervò, below the sports field, at an altitude of 960 m. After 1.7 km, it crosses the Rio Sette Fontane over a wooden bridge. A turnoff leads toward Predaia and the Rifugio Sores; the route is also suitable for mountain bikes. Compared with the Sentiero Romano, this trail focuses on its passage through the forest and the connection between the villages, while the former has distinctive features such as its viewpoint and Tibetan bridge.

Other trails lead to different destinations: one connects the hamlet of Vervò with the Malga di Vervò of the same name. A circular route follows the Sentiero Romano and leads first to Mas dal Mont, then to the Malga di Vervò. This lets you choose between a direct connection to the malga and a loop with several stops. Verginaz also has an equipped park with panoramic views and parking.

Archaeological Traces and the Church of San Martino

The archaeological site of San Martino di Vervò brings together evidence from different periods. It includes the 15th-century Chapel of Saints Fabian and Sebastian. A village associated with the Raetian, or Fritzens-Sanzeno, culture developed in this area and existed from the middle of the 5th century to the 4th century BC. The site has also yielded traces of human presence from prehistoric times to the early Middle Ages. The Iron Age village is therefore one part of a much longer history of human presence at this location.

The old church of San Martino is another historical destination: it was rebuilt starting in the 16th century and has several features of historical and artistic interest. Its bell tower bears a devotional fresco of Saint Christopher. A picturesque road along the edge of the Pongaiola gorge leads to the church. Seventeen Roman inscriptions have also been found in Vervò. The village also has frescoes with sacred subjects, sundials, and coats of arms. Archaeological finds, ecclesiastical art, and historic buildings thus offer distinct themes to explore.
