Mollaro: Church of San Marco, MondoMelinda and Lake Mollaro
Accommodation in Mollaro
Several clearly distinct travel themes come together in Mollaro: the art history of the Church of San Marco, tours of underground apple-storage facilities at MondoMelinda, and Lake Mollaro with fishing regulations specified for a particular period. The Gran Tour Predaia adds a mountain biking option in the wider travel area. If you are looking for hotels in Mollaro, these highlights can shape your trip planning—from an interest in art to a guided excursion or a longer bike ride.
Art history at the Church of San Marco
The Church of San Marco in Mollaro was rebuilt and expanded in 1852. Its façade features a fresco of Saint Mark, painted by Carlo Bonacina in 1946. The building’s history and façade decoration thus belong to different periods. Inside, the marble high altar takes centre stage: it was created in 1853, along with the altarpiece that adorns it. The painting by Luigi de Guarnieri depicts the Madonna with Saints Mark and Anthony.
Paintings from the former church are also part of San Marco’s heritage. These include a 16th-century painting of Saint Andrew and an 18th-century painting of Saint Francis. Together with the 1853 altarpiece and the 1946 façade fresco, they represent several distinct artistic and historical periods. The two older paintings also bring the history of the former church into focus.
MondoMelinda and the route from the station
Near Mollaro, MondoMelinda offers tours of underground apple-storage facilities. They are located 300 metres below ground in the old Rio Maggiore mine. The tour thus combines the subject of apple storage with the underground setting of a former mine. For rail travel, the Trento–Malé–Mezzana line goes to Mollaro station; from there, MondoMelinda is about an eight-minute walk. Check the timetable for your travel day before setting off.
Fishing at Lake Mollaro: note the year
Local fishing regulations listed Lake Mollaro as open from 1 January to 30 September in 2025. The fishing table for the same year listed natural and artificial bait as permitted. These details refer specifically to the 2025 rules. If you are planning a fishing trip, check the currently applicable season and bait regulations beforehand.
Mountain biking in the wider travel area
The Gran Tour Predaia adds a regional mountain biking option to the themes around Mollaro. A route description from 2021 recommends the tour for experienced mountain bikers: it passes through forests, by mountain huts and villages, and is described as well signposted and technically undemanding. Given its considerable length, good physical fitness or an e-mountain bike is recommended. For planning purposes, it is helpful to distinguish technical difficulty from endurance: even a technically straightforward ride may call for good fitness or an e-mountain bike because of its length. The route details given here come from the 2021 description.
The different themes offer distinct highlights: San Marco connects with architectural and art history, MondoMelinda with a guided underground experience, and Lake Mollaro with fishing regulations that apply to a specified period. The Gran Tour Predaia is aimed at experienced mountain bikers and focuses above all on distance and physical fitness. This lets you weigh up which activities suit your stay without confusing historical regulations or the older tour description with current information.
