Peio Terme – Thermal Springs, Trails and Winter Sports
Accommodation in Peio Terme
Peio Terme offers thermal facilities, trails for walks and hikes, winter sports, and insights into the history of the First World War. When choosing a hotel, it helps to decide what you want to focus on during your trip: would you mainly like to use the thermal complex, explore on foot, or plan seasonal activities in the mountains? Courses and guided activities are also among the options in the surrounding area. This will help you weigh up the town’s different attractions according to your interests.
Thermal Springs and Wellness
Terme di Pejo uses three main mineral springs: Antica Fonte, Nuova Fonte and Fonte Alpina. The complex also includes an indoor swimming pool and a wellness area with a Turkish bath, saunas and whirlpools. The springs are thus complemented by specific bathing and heat facilities as part of the thermal offering.
Winter Sports and Seasonal Trails
The Tarlenta cable car station, located near the thermal baths, provides access to the ski slopes in winter and to numerous trekking and hiking routes in summer. Check the cable car’s current operating status before your trip if you are planning around it. One notable descent is the Pista Val della Mite: the eight-kilometre route starts at an altitude of 3,000 metres and leads down to Peio Fonti; it is intended for skiing and snowboarding. In the centre of Peio Terme, Noleggio Sci Pejo3000 offers equipment for alpine skiing, snowboarding, freeriding, ski mountaineering and snowshoeing. This lets you include other winter sports in your plans alongside the descent.
Walks and Hiking Destinations
The very easy walking trail from Peio Fonti to Peio Paese, at an altitude of 1,579 metres, leads to the Area Faunistica in Stelvio National Park. Part of the trail is suitable for pushchairs. If you rely on this option, bear in mind that it applies only to part of the route. Another destination is Malga PalĂą: the easy walking trail starts at Fontanino in Peio Fonti and follows trail 110 along the lakeshore to the mountain hut. Access in the mountains may depend on seasonal conditions; check these before setting out.
The Anello Lago Pian Palù circular trail starts at Malga Frattasecca in Peio Fonti, runs entirely within Stelvio National Park and leads to Lago di Pian Palù. Trail conditions may change with the seasons. The Peio Fonti–Malga Val Comasine route offers a different landscape: it runs above Peio Fonti through the wooded slopes of Val del Monte and offers panoramic views. When choosing, you can consider the different destinations—for example, the Area Faunistica, a mountain hut, the lake, or the wooded slopes with panoramic views.
History, Crafts and Climbing
The Museo di Pejo, in the area around Peio Terme, focuses on the high-altitude military events of the First World War, known as the White War. The Museo della Guerra Bianca Peio organises information evenings and excursions to First World War sites together with Parco dello Stelvio. Check in advance whether suitable dates are available during your stay. Also in the area, Laboratorio Permanente di Tessitura Gianni Rigotti offers courses in weaving and textile fibre processing; confirm availability before your trip.
For indoor climbing, Palestra di Boulder at Circolo Sportivo Pejo has climbing walls for all ability levels. The options therefore range from historical excursions and textile crafts to an indoor sporting activity. If you would like to combine several interests, you can consider these activities alongside the thermal and nature destinations as separate focuses for your trip.
