Discover Serrada: trails, art and history
Accommodation in Serrada
Serrada is 5 km from Folgaria. For planning your trip, you can choose between trails connected to the First World War, a route to Monte Finonchio, and art throughout the village. If you are considering a hotel stay, these options can help you decide whether the village suits the activities you have planned.
Historic hiking trails and a mountain destination
The Forra del Lupo is a trench about 5 kilometres long, built by the Austro-Hungarian army during the First World War. Information boards along the route explain events from that period. The trail therefore combines a hike with a specific historical theme. Trail conditions can vary; check them before setting out.
Another option is the easy SAT / E104 route, which connects Serrada with the summit of Monte Finonchio and Rifugio F.lli Filzi. It follows a comfortable, unpaved former military road that leads to the 1,589 m-high summit. The forest scenery changes along the route: it begins in mixed woodland, then passes through spruce and larch forests. The rifugio is just below the summit. Your choice depends on what you are looking for: historical information along a trench, or a route to the summit with forest sections and a rifugio.
An art walk through Serrada
The Passeggiata Futurista leads through Serrada’s lanes and hidden corners to murals reproducing works by Fortunato Depero. The cultural walk starts in Serrada’s square, goes behind the church along Via C. Pavese to Maso Filzi, then returns via Via F. Depero and past Maso Bioncheri to the church and square. Unlike the routes to Monte Finonchio, this loop passes through the village and focuses on Depero’s work.
The summer programme Serrada Futurista is also dedicated to Fortunato Depero and takes place every year. If you are planning a visit during the programme, check the event dates in advance.
Forte Dosso delle Somme
Forte Dosso delle Somme is an Austro-Hungarian fortress from the First World War (1914–1918). It was built between 1911 and 1913 to control the Borcola Pass on the national border and the Val di Terragnolo below. Today, the fort is an unguarded ruin. Do not enter the interior because of possible hazards.
From Serrada, the fort can be reached on foot via the long trench system of the Forra del Lupo, along the former military road from the village of Ròccolo, or via SAT trail 136. This trail branches off from Serrada’s square and reaches the nearby Rifugio Baita Tonda. The routes differ in their course and destinations; trail conditions can change, so check them before setting out.
