Faver – Vineyard Terraces and Historic Paths
Accommodation in Faver
Faver brings together historic paths, vineyard terraces and an architectural style typical of the Cembra Valley. The town lies at the foot of Monte Avvoltoio. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Faver, you can plan your stay around different interests: local architecture, paths to Ponte di Cantilaga and regional wine culture offer specific themes to consider.
Townscape and Historic Building Phases
Faver’s settlement and architectural layout follow the sloping valley; the houses stand on terraces planted with grapevines. Alleyways branch off the main street between stone buildings. Wooden overhanging structures and passageways in these alleyways are called “frone.” The traditional Rione Cort has its own fountain and square—a specific landmark within the townscape.
The parish church, Chiesa Parrocchiale di S. Filippo e S. Giacomo, also tells the story of several building phases: it was consecrated in 1116, rebuilt in 1462 and expanded several times over the following centuries. These dates mark a long building history, not just a single event. The church thus adds a precisely datable historical reference to the alleyways and squares.
Paths Through the Vineyards and to Ponte di Cantilaga
The Paesaggi di vite route begins in the center of Faver and follows the European long-distance trail E5 waymarkers along the historic Via della Corvaia to Ponte di Cantilaga. From Faver, Via della Corvaia descends to the bridge along a paved mule track. On the return, the route follows farm tracks through the vineyards back to Faver. This makes it possible to pinpoint its course and connections to the landscape at the town center, bridge and vineyards.
Ponte di Cantilaga was first mentioned in 1472. After several rebuilds, the present bridge was built in 2007. Semita Aqua also leads from the town of Faver to Ponte di Cantilaga. This route includes a short exposed section secured with metal cables, as well as some steep stretches and steps. By comparison, Paesaggi di vite provides specific guidance along the path through the vineyards and Via della Corvaia; the secured section and steep stretches are distinctive features of the Semita Aqua route.
Faver is also on the Via del Dürer, the route from the Klösterle di San Floriano to the Segonzano Earth Pyramids. Nearby, a turnoff near the cemetery leads from Ponte di Cantilaga to the ruins of Castello di Segonzano, founded in the Middle Ages. These routes provide different points of reference for situating historic trails and destinations in the surrounding area.
Legends and Wine from the Cembra Valley
Capitello della Madonna delle Grazie is linked to the local legend of l’Om Selvà dech, the “wild man.” Here, alongside the dated building histories of the church and bridge, you can discover a local storytelling tradition associated with a named structure.
The wine culture includes Azienda Agricola Giorgio e Federico Paolazzi, where the new sparkling wine “Gradar” and Müller-Thurgau, considered the best-known wine of the Cembra Valley, are tasted. A family story is shared during the tasting. So, as you plan your trip, you can choose from architecture, walking routes and a specific connection to wine and family history.
