Daone lies at the entrance to the valley leading to Val di Fumo and the source of the Chiese in Adamello. A range of activities are available for your stay: loop trails and trekking, a high-altitude mountain lake, scenic landscapes and historic memorial sites. If you’re looking for a hotel in Daone, you can first decide whether hiking or cultural attractions should be the focus of your trip.

Hiking trails and destinations in Val di Daone

The “Percorso dei prati e dei fiori” is a four-kilometre loop trail around the artificial Lake Moradino. Information boards describe the small wildlife of Val di Daone. It is also possible to start directly in Daone, adding an extra kilometre. Stage 35 of the SAT trekking route “Il Perimetro del Trentino” leads to the hamlet of Pracul in Daone, in Val di Daone. This gives you two options to suit different planning needs: a circular route with a specified distance and a trekking stage with a named destination.

Another destination is Lago di Casinèi, which lies at an altitude of 2,059 metres in a glacial hollow below Monte Remà in Val di Daone. From Malga di Nova, it can be reached via trail 250; trail conditions may vary. In summer, excursions in Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta are also possible from Daone.

Scenery and nature experiences

The area around Daone includes several mountain pastures, large reservoirs and areas characterised by chestnut trees. Icefalls form along numerous streams and torrents in Val di Daone; 136 have been recorded, though the number on record may change. Grotta di Aladino, also known as Grotta val di Nova, is located within the municipality of Daone. Its main entrance can be reached via a trail from Malga Casinèi, continuing on to Malga Casinèi della Nova.

In the municipality, the nature trail “Un sentiero per tutti” is located in Nudole, in Val di Daone. It was created by Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta in 2015 and designed to be accessible. Features include smooth, firm surfaces, tree trunks or taut ropes to help blind visitors find their way, and rest-stop boards with information in Braille and English.

Church, memorials and museum

The church of San Bartolomeo reflects two distinct historical periods: its portico was used for community meetings in the 14th century. The church acquired its present appearance in the 17th and early 18th centuries, when it was rebuilt and extended.

Madonna della Neve stands on the Limes plateau at an altitude of 929 metres in Val di Daone. In 1959, it was rebuilt over an older structure as a memorial to those who lost their lives during the major hydroelectric works in Val di Daone. The giant trunk of the silver fir Avèz de Boaz is also kept in Daone’s town hall square; its transport is dated to 1955.

The Piccolo Museo della Micologia Fungolife comprises five rooms devoted to specific topics and documents related to fungi. Its exhibits include publications, works of art, a photo and video library, as well as minerals and fossils. Check the museum’s opening hours before your visit.

Getting there and finding a hotel

Val di Daone can be reached year-round via the road that passes through Daone; in winter, conditions depend on the weather.
