Zerbolò appeals to travellers who want to explore nature and history as distinct aspects of a stay. Around Cascina Venara and Bosco Siro Negri, trails, habitats and white stork conservation take centre stage; in Zerbolò and Parasacco, castles and churches are the main historical attractions. If you are looking for hotels in Zerbolò, this distinction offers an initial framework for choosing your destination.

Nature Trails and Conservation

The Sentiero Zerbolò starts and ends at Ostello Cascina Venara. Its route passes through diverse habitats of ecological importance that are typical of Parco del Ticino. The Anello della Venara starts and ends at Cascina Venara in Zerbolò. On the Ciclabile lungo il Ticino, Cascina Venara in the locality of Zerbolò is one of the stops.

The route to Bosco Siro Negri from Zerbolò runs via Cascina Venara and trail E1. As trail conditions can vary by season, check their status before setting out. Bosco Siro Negri is a remnant of the original lowland forests. The area was established as a strict nature reserve by a decree of the Italian Republic’s Ministry on 11 December 1973.

At Cascina Venara, around 30 white storks from the local colony breed in the wild in a designated area; the colony’s size may change. Agreements between the Municipality of Zerbolò, Parco Lombardo della Valle del Ticino and environmental associations that have worked there in succession made it possible to launch a project at Cascina Venara to breed, acclimatise and release pairs of white storks into the wild. The “A Passo d'Ali” association monitors and protects the colony and raises environmental awareness among school groups and park visitors.

The different focus of each nature attraction helps put them into context: the Sentiero highlights typical habitats along the route, while Bosco Siro Negri is about protecting a remnant of the original lowland forests. At Cascina Venara, the stork colony adds work in conservation and environmental education.

Castles and Churches in Zerbolò and Parasacco

The surviving remains of Castello di Parasacco lie northwest of the village, on an alluvial terrace of the Ticino. They date back to a castle built by the people of Pavia between the 14th and 15th centuries. Castello di Zerbolò is a fortified castle built in the 15th century; in the village centre, it is integrated into other buildings and privately owned.

The parish church of San Bartolomeo can be visited in Zerbolò. Its present structure was completed between 1743 and 1747. In Parasacco, the church of Santa Maria Avvocata is in the Baroque style; its furnishings include valuable details and frescoes. These offer different historical points of interest: a parish church open to visitors, a church with Baroque furnishings, and castles, each with its own story.

The feast day in honour of the Apostle Bartholomew is listed as 24 August. If you would like to include the celebration in your travel plans, check the dates for your travel year in advance.
