Pregola offers specific points of interest, from views over the Staffora Valley and historic buildings to hiking trails and the Il Brallo sports center. The annual Sagra della Patata and local production of the Patata di Cencerate also form part of the municipality.

Pregola: Valley Views and Geology

From the black rocks known as Sassi Neri, Pregola overlooks the Staffora Valley. Pregola is also part of the Appennino Pavese area, with outcrops of ophiolitic rock. For travelers comparing nature-related features, the valley views and the geological perspective offer two distinct aspects of the landscape around Pregola.

Castle, Casaforte, and Church

The Malaspina marquises’ castle was built on Pregola’s rocky promontory in the Middle Ages. Toward the end of the 17th century, a fire destroyed the original fortress. The present-day Casaforte was built in its place; it stands in the meadows at the edge of Pregola’s town center. The Casaforte is therefore a later building that replaced the older fortress, not the medieval castle itself. The church in Pregola is also part of the local cultural heritage. Dedicated to Saints Agatha and Roch, it is classified as rural religious architecture.

Hiking: Circular Trail and Connecting Route

Two different route descriptions are relevant for hiking. The easy Montagnola circular trail reaches the outskirts of Pregola, then follows the road to Dezza and returns to Brallo. Trail 116 connects Pregola with Trail 115 shortly before Casone. The difference in the described routes matters for planning: Montagnola forms a loop that returns to Brallo, while Trail 116 connects to Trail 115. This allows you to distinguish a circular trail that returns to its starting area from a connecting route. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Sports Center and Summer Camps

Il Brallo is a tourist sports center in the hamlet of Pregola, at an altitude of 1,050 meters. For more than 50 years, the site has also been a traditional venue for FITP summer camps. In addition to tennis, Il Brallo’s summer program includes beach tennis, archery, five-a-side football, volleyball, and basketball. Sport is therefore a distinct focus alongside the hiking trails and local history.

Potato Tradition and September Date

The Sagra della Patata in Brallo di Pregola takes place every year on the second Sunday in September. If you are planning your trip specifically around the festival, check the exact event dates in advance. The Patata di Cencerate is also still produced in small quantities in one hamlet within the municipality. The Sagra provides a date to plan around; the small-scale production adds to the picture of local food culture independently of the festival date.
