Montesegale lies in the Valle Ardivestra and combines a hilly landscape with specific cultural and event-related attractions. If you are looking for a hotel in Montesegale, you can choose where to stay according to what matters for your visit: the cultural history of the Castello, the parish church, the Fiera di San Damiano or routes through the countryside. These offer different starting points for planning your trip—from an annual festival to a circular route with scenic views.

Valle Ardivestra and how to get there

The Valle Ardivestra is crossed by the stream of the same name and is characterised by hilly terrain. From Godiasco, take the Strada Provinciale No. 184; six kilometres farther on, you reach the start of the municipality of Montesegale. The valley and the access road offer two different points of reference: one describes the landscape, while the other indicates the route to the start of the municipal area.

Art, the Castello and the parish church

The Museo di Arte Contemporanea was established in 1975 in three rooms in the Castello di Montesegale. The Castello di Montesegale is privately owned and is not open to the public. The parish church of Montesegale is dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian and was built in 1700. The history of art at the Castello and the church’s architectural history thus offer different points of reference for exploring Montesegale’s culture.

Fiera di San Damiano and Pansegale

The Fiera di San Damiano takes place every year on the last Sunday in September. It includes a historical re-enactment at the Castello di Montesegale and tastings of Salame di Varzi D.O.P. and De.Co. products. If you would like to plan your stay around the fair, check the exact event date in advance.

Pansegale is designated as a De.Co. product. It is made with sourdough and enriched with walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and dried figs. Its ingredients and preparation offer a distinct culinary point of interest alongside the Fiera’s date, which is set annually.

Routes and archery

The two routes offer different planning information. The 035s circular route – Anello Fornace Sud passes through scenic landscapes and allows visitors to explore the Borgo di Montesegale and the Castello dei Gambarana. Route 172b connects Sanguignano with Sentiero 172. The 035s therefore focuses on a circular route, scenery and the village, while the key feature of route 172b is its connection to another named trail.

Archery in Fornace includes a course with three-dimensional animal targets for field archery, which has been in existence since 2005. The terms “hunter” and “field” are also used. The Arcieri Ardivestra target archery range has hosted the interregional Trofeo Ardivestra since 2002; it takes place every year. The A.S.D. Arcieri Ardivestra in Montesegale has also organised sporting events and courses for all age groups. If you are interested in a specific course or date, check the current information before your trip.
