Zenevredo between Cultural Heritage and Wine Country
Accommodation in Zenevredo
Zenevredo lies close to the plain, to the right of the Torrente Versa, among the first hills at just over 200 metres above sea level. Fields, the first slopes and small streams shape the rural landscape. Churches, wine tasting and cycling routes are practical starting points for a stay—different sides of a place set between cultural heritage and rolling hills.
Church and Local History
Municipal information, updated on 28 March 2025, dates the Chiesa di San Vincenzo to the mid-18th century. Traces of Romanesque masonry made of local stone and bricks remain in the rear section, particularly in the presbytery and sacristy. The façade was rebuilt in 1871. The church thus brings together its 18th-century construction, older traces of masonry and the later rebuilding of its façade.
Admission to the Chiesa di San Vincenzo is free. The parking area at the church is wheelchair accessible; this information applies to the parking area. In the town centre, there is also a 14th-century tower on a site identified as the location of the former castle.
Wine and Tasting
At Oltrenero, sparkling wines are made using the Metodo Classico method, with the second fermentation taking place in the bottle. A guided tasting pairs three sparkling wines with local specialities, including Salame di Varzi DOP, goat’s cheese and Formaggella di Menconico. The selection of wines and food may change.
Oltrenero is open year-round to visitors and people interested in wine. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and Saturday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm; it is closed on Sundays. Check the opening hours before visiting, and confirm directly whether a reservation is required.
Vineyards and Cycling Routes
The municipality currently lists “Le nostre colline” as a viewpoint overlooking the vineyards. Together with the fields, slopes and small streams, it contributes to the area’s rural character. The viewpoint offers a different focus from the town’s historic buildings: here, the view over the vineyards shapes how the destination is described.
A route from the 2021 Giro d’Italia in the Oltrepò Pavese turns off the Strada Statale 10 Padana Inferiore onto the Strada Provinciale 85 towards Zenevredo, then continues along the Provinciale 134 towards Montù Beccaria. It is designated as a cycling route that can be ridden year-round. Another route, called Zenevredo–Montù Beccaria, passes through hills and vineyards. The Giro route details specify the sequence of roads; the other route description characterises its course through the landscape.
Polentata di Zenevredo 2026
The Polentata di Zenevredo reached its fifth edition on 29 March 2026. From 12:00 pm, visitors could sample traditional Lombard peasant-style polenta in the Ortone della Chiesa district. The day began with the fourth edition of a charity run, with participants meeting at 8:00 am at the Centro Sportivo di Zenevredo. This information relates to the 2026 edition; future dates and programmes may differ.
There are several different ways to shape your destination choice: the church and tower offer tangible links to local history, the tasting introduces the theme of wine, and the named routes provide cyclists with both scenic and road-based points of reference. If you are looking for hotels in Zenevredo, these themes can help you decide what kind of stay you want.
