Civenna can be explored through its trails, viewpoints, and architectural and local history. If you’re looking for a hotel in Civenna, specific destinations can help guide your choice of where to stay: are you most interested in views, hikes, or traces of the past? The places differ in what they reveal—from a distinctive beech tree along a route to a tomb later put to a different use.

Hikes and Getting Around

The self-guided walking tour of Civenna starts at the Belvedere car park. As the starting point for a route, the car park can be reached by car or on the C36 Bellagio–Asso bus; check the current timetable before setting out. On the Bellagio Trekking 7 route, a short detour to the right takes just a few minutes to reach Croce di Civenna, a viewpoint overlooking the village and the lake. There is water at Cascina Giacinta, near the GPS track; its availability depends on local maintenance.

Another route leads from Civenna to Monte San Primo; along the way stands the Fòò Sec, a distinctive beech tree around 200 years old. These differences can help you choose a hike: Bellagio Trekking 7 combines a short detour with views over the village and lake, while the route toward Monte San Primo is marked by the Fòò Sec as a natural landmark.

Viewpoints in Civenna

Belvedere di Civenna is at the entrance to the village and offers a spectacular view of the Grigne mountains. Another viewpoint is Passeggiata Ettore Foschi, which looks out over the entire Lecco branch of Lake Como. The Balcone delle Grigne terrace is also located at the entrance to the Cine-Teatro; it offers an impressive panorama. These named places offer different views: the Grigne, the Lecco branch of the lake, and the panorama from the terrace by the Cine-Teatro.

Architectural and Local History

A notable testament to the area’s earlier history is the funerary Masso avello: a tomb carved into a boulder in the 2nd or 3rd century AD. It was later reused as a basin for the water supply system. The same object thus brings together its original function as a tomb and its later use in the water supply.

The parish church of Santi Materno e Ambrogio houses a dressed crucifix from the 14th century. The small church of Madonna del Grè dates from the 16th century. This makes it possible to distinguish the periods: the crucifix is from the 14th century, while the church of Madonna del Grè is from the 16th century.

Villa Cassia is a historic residence in Civenna whose architectural character has been preserved over time. The Castello district is considered distinctive; the village’s former prison was located there. The two destinations point to different aspects of local history: Villa Cassia to its preserved architectural character, and Castello to the district’s former function.

The mural at the Cine-Teatro depicts a cyclist’s focused gaze and is visible from Ghisallo. The Panchina Gigante is the 137th installation of Chris Bangle’s Big Bench Community Project. Together, the mural’s subject and the bench’s association with the project complement Civenna’s historical and landscape themes.
