Pilzone offers several distinct highlights for a stay: trails with views of Lake Iseo and Monte Isola, churches with historic works of art, the Big Bench in the San Fermo area, and a beach on Via Giovanni XXIII. If you are looking for a hotel in Pilzone, you can first consider whether your trip will focus mainly on trails, culture or time by the water. The places to visit below offer some specific ideas.

Trails, views and the Big Bench

The trail from Pilzone towards San Fermo offers views of Lake Iseo and Monte Isola. In the upper part of the hamlet of Pilzone d’Iseo, the church of San Fermo stands on the Prato del monte plateau. You can reach it via a steep paved path or along hiking trail 242. Pilzone d’Iseo’s Big Bench is also in the San Fermo area, where it offers views of the Sebino and Monte Isola. To reach the Big Bench, take Via Volontari del Sangue and Via San Tommaso from Piazza Basilio Cittadini.

Another trail option is the Antica Strada Valeriana. Its first section, from Pilzone to Tassano, includes a flat, paved stretch equipped for people with disabilities. Along the Antica Strada Valeriana, follow the signs reading “Antica Strada Valeriana” and the VV trail markers. The difference between this route and San Fermo is clear when planning: the access to San Fermo is described as steep, while the Valeriana route includes a flat, equipped section.

MilleMonti offers a bookable hiking experience to the Big Bench, followed by an aperitif. If you would like to include this experience in your plans, check availability in advance.

Churches and local history

The church of San Tommaso stands in the centre of Pilzone, on a small square where the Strada Valeriana climbs towards Valle Camonica. The church contains early frescoes, including the Madonna del latte and a holy apostle who may be Thomas. Their archaic style suggests they date from the 14th or 15th century.

The church of San Fermo was built in the 17th century. It is dedicated to Saint Fermo, who was invoked to protect livestock and shepherds. Another stop for art and history is the parish church of Santa Maria e dei Santi Pietro e Paolo in Pilzone. It has an altarpiece dated 1741 depicting La Vergine in gloria, along with Saints Pietro, Francesco, Luigi Gonzaga and Carlo Borromeo.

The former Negrinelli house on the lakeside road is also part of local history. The building dates from the 19th century; the first tricolour flag of the Risorgimento uprising flew there.
