Colombaro-Timoline brings together historic churches, routes for walkers and cyclists, a circular trail at the Riserva Naturale delle Torbiere del Sebino, and the Bosio winery in Timoline. The places and activities can be distinguished by these interests.

Churches and historic traces

The original Church of Santi Cosma e Damiano in Timoline has been mentioned since the 12th century in documents concerning the property of the Monastery of Santa Giulia di Brescia. Its present appearance dates to an extensive renovation commissioned by the parish priest, don Agostino Gandino, in 1532. The church therefore offers a way to trace both its early mention and a much later, defining phase of construction.

The main entrance to Santi Cosma e Damiano is on foot across a large paved church square; there are no obvious architectural barriers.

In Colombaro, the Chiesetta di Sant’Afra is part of the medieval Castrum core in the south of the village. The church stands in the historic centre at the crossroads of the Clusane–Adro and Colombaro–Timoline–Provaglio d’Iseo routes. Inside, the floor of the late-medieval predecessor church is visible, about 1.75 metres below the floor level of the 18th-century church. The older floor makes the building’s history tangible at this site and adds a visible architectural reference to the documented history of Santi Cosma e Damiano.

Walking and cycling

The third stage of the Via delle Sorelle passes through Timoline, Colombaro and Nigoline. It is part of a 130-kilometre route from Brescia to Bergamo. For orientation, the stage number is not the only useful detail: the three places named are also along this long-distance route. The Via delle Sorelle is a walking route; it should be distinguished from the Bergamo–Brescia cycle path, which also has a section in Timoline.

The Bergamo–Brescia cycle path runs through Timoline and passes south of the Riserva Naturale delle Torbiere del Sebino. From Timoline, the reserve’s southern path is also accessible for an approximately eight-kilometre circular walk. This route is suitable for small children. Check the current access rules and fees before your visit so you can factor the conditions for this outing into your plans.

Another option is the walk “Da Borgonato a Provaglio d’Iseo e ritorno.” It passes through vineyards and cultivated fields to Provaglio-Timoline railway station; the stated walking time is about half an hour. The route therefore combines a specific time estimate with a description of a walk through the cultivated landscape. The station at the destination should not be confused with Borgonato–Adro, one of the railway stations closest to Colombaro-Timoline.

Plan your wine experience and journey

The Bosio winery in Timoline offers cellar tours and guided tastings from Monday to Saturday. Advance booking is required, and availability also applies. As this is current business information and booking conditions can change, it is best to arrange your visit directly with the winery in advance. This lets you factor the day of the week, reservation and preferred tour or tasting into your travel plans.

For travel by train, Borgonato–Adro station on the Brescia–Iseo–Edolo line is nearby and is one of the closest stations. Check timetables and service information before travelling. If you are also planning the walk to Provaglio-Timoline, note the different station names: the walk ends there, and Borgonato–Adro is a different point of reference. Together with the approximate walking times and the information about the circular route, these details can help you choose outings that suit your stay.
