Costa Di Mezzate brings together sacred art and historic buildings with green spaces and recurring events. When planning your trip, it is also important to consider the different access conditions: two historic towers have explicitly different restrictions, and some offerings are seasonal. Check access conditions before visiting if a tower is part of your itinerary.

Church, Palaces and Local History

The parish church of San Giorgio was built in 1510 at the request of Count Martino Vertova and consecrated in 1528. The church houses two paintings by Enea Talpino, known as Il Salmeggia, as well as an altarpiece by Giacomo Trecourt. These works are by two different artists and add to the church’s architectural history through its artistic furnishings.

Palazzo Gout is an 18th-century stately palace. It was built on the foundations of an earlier fortified palace, known as Pavione degli Zoppi or Casatorre degli Zoppi. The main hall has particularly varied decoration: it is entirely adorned with frescoes depicting architectural features, as well as statues, vases, and floral motifs.

Cappella delle Saore also has a clear historical connection: it commemorates the victims of the 17th-century plague. Torre degli Zoppi is an ancient defensive structure built by the noble Zoppi family from Bergamo. Access is currently limited to the ground floor, where a commercial business is operating. Torre del Colle San Geminiano differs both in its history and access conditions: the ancient tower is the best-preserved part of the former Castello, also known as Castrum, of the Counts Ghisalbertini De Martinengo. The tower and surrounding area are currently inaccessible.

Rasetto illustrates another function of historic buildings: during attacks from outside, it served as a refuge and shelter for the local population, most of whom were farmers. In Costa Di Mezzate, places of religious remembrance, stately architecture, and buildings that served a protective function stand side by side.

Parks and Green Spaces

Parco rinascita is a green space on Via Greppi, at the foot of the hill in the northern part of the municipality. It makes the hilly area more accessible and usable for all residents. Native species enhance the local flora and define the park’s boundary.

Parco Tiraboschi Abate is a public park with a children’s playground. It is accessible to people with disabilities because there are no changes in level. Parco della Rimembranza, by contrast, is centered on a historic memorial: its redevelopment was completed in 1959 and included a new monument to all those who fell in the great wars. The three parks thus have distinct focuses: use of the hilly terrain, a playground with level ground, and a memorial.

Cascina Fuì: Summer Offering and Market

Cascina Fuì is near the border with Bagnatica, at the foot of Colle San Geminiano and Castello Camozzi Vertova. It can be reached on foot or by car from the historic center of Costa Di Mezzate; there is a large parking lot around the Cascina. Paese Vecchio opens the Cascina to the public as part of its traditional summer festival. In summer, from Thursday to Sunday, it becomes a place to share a meal with friends and family. At the summer festivals, you can also sample typical local dishes.

Another reason to visit is the antiques market at the Cascina: it has been held on the first Sunday of every month for more than twenty years, and exhibitors come from all over Italy. The summer offering and the monthly market follow different schedules. If you are planning your trip around either of these events, check the specific event date in advance.

Annual Events and a Route to the Castle

The international festival Magie al Borgo is dedicated to street art and contemporary circus. It takes place annually in the center of Costa Di Mezzate. Another destination can be reached via the Cammino del Vescovado: the route leads to Castello Camozzi Vertova. The castle is currently not open to visitors because it is privately owned; bear this restriction in mind when planning your route.
