Fuipiano Valle Imagna brings together a clearly defined hiking connection with historic buildings and works of art. The village is a starting point for an alternative hike to Monte Resegone; at the same time, the Contrada Arnosto is within the municipality and brings together distinctive evidence of local history. If you are looking for a hotel in Fuipiano Valle Imagna, these themes offer a concrete basis for deciding whether you want to connect the village primarily with a hike or with its cultural heritage.

Hiking and the Tre Faggi landmark

Fuipiano Valle Imagna is a starting point for an alternative hike to Monte Resegone. Before planning your hike, check the trail conditions locally.

The place name Tre Faggi refers to three centuries-old beech trees standing on the mountain summit. A chapel dedicated to Madonna dei Tre Faggi is located near the village. The natural landmark and religious building offer different points of interest: the beech trees explain the name, while the chapel is distinguished by its dedication.

Arnosto: the district and its customs history

The Contrada Arnosto is within the municipality of Fuipiano Valle Imagna. It consists of a distinctive group of rural homes and lies on a plateau slightly above Fuipiano, at an altitude of 1,033 metres along an old route. As an ensemble, this group of homes differs from the individual buildings associated with the customs house and sacred art.

Arnosto was the site of a Venetian customs house until 1797. The customs house has distinctive roofs made of overlapping limestone slabs. Its former customs function and distinctive roofing offer two different insights into the place: one concerns its historical role, the other its specific architectural form. There is also a small ethnographic museum in the southern part of Arnosto.

Chapels and works of art

The chapel of San Filippo Neri e San Francesco di Paola in Arnosto was built in 1664. Its altarpiece dates from 1665 and depicts the Madonna, Saint Philip Neri and Saint Anthony of Padua. The construction date and the date of the painting are close, but refer to two different things: 1664 marks the construction of the chapel, while 1665 marks the altarpiece. The building’s history and its furnishings can therefore be considered as separate, individually dated aspects.

The Church of San Giovanni Battista preserves frescoes by Giuseppe Orelli and also houses the painting Madonna delle Grazie. The painting by Giacomo Francia da Bologna, dating from 1535, depicts Saints Sebastian, Roch and John. Fuipiano Valle Imagna is therefore home to both a dated altarpiece featuring named figures and an older painting attributed to an artist. The year 1535 is 130 years earlier than the date of the 1665 altarpiece; this comparison distinguishes the two works chronologically.
