Calcinate can be explored through a variety of themes: the bell tower of Parrocchia Santa Maria Assunta, the Giardino dei Giusti, Roman traces in the municipal area and trails along the Torrente Zerra. There is also the swimming pool and sports courts at Piscina di Calcinate. You can choose the focus of your stay based on local history, outdoor exercise or waterside leisure. If you are looking for a hotel in Calcinate, compare the options below with your travel plans.

Remembrance and local history

The Giardino dei Giusti was designated by Municipal Council Resolution No. 60 of 28 May 2009. Its purpose is to promote a culture of peace and preserve and pass on the memory of people who, from the 20th century onward, stood against genocides and are known as “Giusti” (the Righteous). Trees have been planted in their honor in the garden. Their names were selected by students from Istituto Comprensivo di Calcinate. Remembrance, a culture of peace and student involvement are thus central to the idea behind this garden.

Calcinate also has a Roman historical layer. Clear traces of the centuriation carried out in the 1st century AD have been preserved in its territory. The term refers to a Roman method of surveying and dividing land. The history associated with Calcinate therefore extends beyond the architectural history of individual buildings: the Roman organization of the territory is also part of the town’s documented history.

Parrocchia Santa Maria Assunta

Parrocchia Santa Maria Assunta reveals another historical period. Its bell tower was first built in 1626 and raised in 1884 based on a design by the architect Don Antonio Piccinelli. The dates mark two distinct building phases: the construction of the tower and its later heightening. Thanks to an effective system for removing architectural barriers, the church is fully accessible to people with disabilities. If accessibility is important for your plans, confirm this before your visit.

Trails along the Torrente Zerra

A fully paved trail, intended exclusively for pedestrians, runs through Parco delle Brede. It follows the Torrente Zerra throughout and connects northern Calcinate, at the intersection of via Beretta and viale delle Brede, with the town center, at the intersection of via Falcone and via Moroni. Both endpoints and the route along the water are clearly specified. Il Biancospino is also named as another nature trail in Calcinate. The trail in Parco delle Brede connects the stated endpoints along the Torrente Zerra; Il Biancospino is another nature trail in Calcinate. This makes it possible to choose between a specifically described connection and a named nature trail, depending on which matters more to you.
