Carvico offers options for a variety of travel plans: its religious history, the archaeological site of San Tomè and the Museo Alpino sit alongside the starting point of the Sentiero 895 and a cycle path on the SP 166. The terrain also varies across the area.

Churches, Archaeology and Local History

A church dedicated to Saint Martin existed in Carvico by 1179 at the latest. The Chiesina di Santa Maria del Campo had already been built by the end of the 13th century. The original Chiesa della Visitazione di Maria Santissima dates back to the 12th century. These dates relate to different churches and historical contexts, tracing distinct stages in the local history of the Church.

The locations also help you find your way: the small Chiesina di Santa Maria del Campo is in the center of Carvico. The Chiesa della Visitazione di Maria Santissima stands on higher ground above the square in front of it and can be reached by stairs. The Chiesa di San Martino is located at Via San Martino 57. Together, these provide different spatial reference points: a central location, a square with a change in elevation, and a street address.

The archaeological site of San Tomè is in Carvico, where the boundaries of Carvico, Calusco and Terno meet. The Museo Alpino was inaugurated in June 2012. Compared with the churches’ medieval history, this is a more recent, precisely dated milestone in local cultural history.

Terrain, Hiking and Cycling

The terrain varies across the area: north of the built-up area it is hilly, while most of the rest is fairly flat and slopes gently southward. This contrast gives you a general impression of Carvico’s landscape without reducing the entire area to a single type of terrain.

The Sentiero 895 starts in Parco Serraglio in Carvico. For hikers, this specific starting point is a useful reference when planning the route as part of a trip.

A cycle path runs alongside the road on the SP 166, at the intersection with Via Budriago. If you plan to cycle this section, check local conditions beforehand.

Planning Your Train Journey

Carvico has no railway line. Calusco d’Adda station, about 2 km away, is used for train connections to Bergamo and Milan. Check current train services separately before deciding how to travel.

If you plan to include both a train journey and a hike in the same stay, two different reference points are relevant: Calusco d’Adda station, about 2 km away, and the start of the Sentiero 895 in Parco Serraglio. This lets you consider train travel and the route’s starting point as separate parts of planning your stay.
