Sestri Levante can be discovered through a range of interests: coastal scenery, historic buildings, a museum and trails with sea views. When planning a stay, it helps to distinguish specific routes and attractions from the programmes of individual festival editions. This can help you decide whether to focus mainly on cultural sites, a particular hike or events.

Coast and trails

The Baia del Silenzio has crystal-clear water and fine sand. To the west, the bay is sheltered by the Punta Manara promontory.

Sestri Levante’s network of trails extends for more than 42 kilometres, with most of the trails offering sea views. The circular route to Punta Manara is a distinct hike: it is about 2.5 kilometres long and takes approximately two hours. It starts at Vico del Bottone in the historic centre. The distance and duration refer to this circular route, while the more than 42 kilometres describe the larger trail network.

A project to improve accessibility, announced in January 2025, also included a tourist footpath. It was intended to connect the railway station with the town centre, running along the seafront promenade and through the old town to Palazzo Fascie Rossi, home of the MuSel. Before visiting, check the current signage and the status of the work.

Museum, buildings and old town

The MuSel occupies the third and fourth floors of Palazzo Fascie Rossi. Its archaeological section covers finds from the Tigullio area and spans a broad period, from the Palaeolithic to the Middle Ages.

San Nicolò dell'Isola is considered the oldest place of worship in the town of Sestri Levante and was built in the Romanesque style in 1151. Surviving features include medieval inscriptions and tomb slabs, as well as a two-arched bell tower with a pyramidal spire.

The historic centre near the Baia del Silenzio also offers a mix of building types: typical Ligurian houses stand alongside noble palaces and religious buildings. This combination of everyday residential architecture and grand, religious buildings gives the townscape its distinctive architectural character.

Festivals and event programmes

The Andersen Festival is a recurring event in Sestri Levante. It reached its 28th edition in 2025 and its 29th in 2026. More than 50 performances at ten different venues were planned for the edition running from 4 to 7 June 2026. These dates apply to that specific edition; if you are planning a future trip around the festival, check the dates and programme for that edition.

The “Aria, meraviglia tra mare, colline e musica” festival also returned in 2026. The programme included six classical music concerts in atmospheric locations, reachable on foot on guided sunset treks. Local products were sampled at the destination. For this edition, the concert, guided tour and tasting were therefore combined; future editions may be different.

When planning, you can distinguish between attractions and trails described as permanent features, on the one hand, and time-specific festival programmes, on the other. This makes it easier to match the trip’s cultural and coastal themes with the dates of a particular visit.
