Torrazza for your stay

Torrazza offers three concrete points of reference for planning a stay: the narrow-gauge Ferrovia Genova-Casella, the Via del Sale, and the history of religious buildings and Palazzo Spinola. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether the railway, a route, or the town’s history will shape your stay. This distinction helps you decide what to focus on during your trip; for specific accommodation, compare the details of each offer afterward.

The railway and regional context

Torrazza station is located at kilometer 10.700 of the Ferrovia Genova-Casella. It is accessible from the road; however, access to the railway line from there is on foot only. If you are including a train journey in your plans, take this access arrangement into account and check the latest rail service information before you travel. In the wider region around Torrazza, the narrow-gauge Ferrovia Genova-Casella connects Genoa with the Valle Scrivia and runs through the Bisagno, Polcevera, and Scrivia valleys. The kilometer figure is a reference along the line; the note about walking, by contrast, refers to access to the railway line.

Via del Sale

The Via del Sale begins just after the turnoff to Torrazza station and leads to the square of the Church of San Bernardo at an elevation of 330 m. The route description dates from 2012; a 2026 FIAB program also lists an active bike tour under the name Via del Sale di Torrazza. Check trail conditions before setting out. For orientation, the turnoff to the station is the starting reference, while the church square is the stated destination.

Churches and architectural history

The Oratorio S. Bernardo and the adjoining rectory in Piazza Oratorio, Loc. Torrazza, are protected landmarks. The Church of Nostra Signora del Rosario e San Bernardo is located on Via San Bernardo, also in Torrazza. The similar-sounding names therefore refer to two distinct points of reference: the protected oratory with its rectory and the church on Via San Bernardo. Palazzo Spinola in Torrazza was built in the 17th century and belonged to a Genoese noble family of the same name. It served as a checkpoint for the movement of goods with the Valle Scrivia.

The present-day Church of Nostra Signora del Rosario e San Bernardo was built at the beginning of the 20th century. An archiepiscopal decree dated September 1, 1955, elevated it to parish church status; in 1960, it received the title of Prevostura. This sequence distinguishes the building’s history from its later changes in ecclesiastical status: the beginning of the 20th century refers to its construction, while the two later dates mark its elevation to parish church status and the granting of its title.
