Statale is a hamlet in Val Graveglia. For a trip based around this place, you can choose from Roman traces, the historic village layout and a range of excursion destinations. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Statale, you can first decide which themes will shape your stay: local history, a route through several hamlets or Tana da Ciocca.

History and Traces from Roman Times

Statale is considered one of the oldest hamlets in Val Graveglia. Written sources mention the place as early as the 11th century. Archaeological finds date back even further: Roman remains were discovered during excavations in the Statale district. A rural settlement from Roman times was also identified nearby and is still being studied.

The history of the parish churches also links Statale with the hamlet of Nascio. At first, the two were served by a shared parish church; later, each built its own. In Statale, follow the characteristic lanes to an ancient cemetery. Right next to it are the ruins of an adjoining church. Statale is also included in a guided tour of the historic villages of Val Graveglia.

Trails, Chestnut Forests and Tana da Ciocca

One walking route takes you through Nascio, Cassagna and Statale. A separate option is a mostly unpaved road that leads from Cassagna through extensive chestnut forests to Statale. These offer two different points of reference for a stay that includes time outdoors: a route through three hamlets, or a path through the chestnut forests to Statale.

Tana da Ciocca cave lies in the Statale district of Ne, in the GE 36 Alta Val Graveglia karst area. It is managed by Parco Aveto and is suitable for speleology. It is also considered suitable as a first vertical caving trip for beginners. The cave therefore offers a distinct focus alongside the historic trails and local history. Stataland is a playground with wooden play equipment.

Market and Planning Your Trip

The Val Graveglia agricultural market takes place in Conscenti every Saturday morning from 9:00 to 12:00, from May through the end of October. Check the date before your trip. Sausages at the market come from the areas of Terre di Prato di Reppia, Statale and Conscenti; the range of products may vary seasonally. The market is therefore a separate point of interest in Conscenti and should not be confused with a visit to Statale.

A municipal road connects Statale with Passo del Biscia and Arzeno. If you are also planning to visit the market in Conscenti, its seasonal Saturday schedule gives you a specific date to plan around. This can help you tailor your hotel search to your planned travel dates and interests.
