Coreglia Ligure lies at the foot of 774-metre Monte Pegge. When choosing a destination, its hiking trails with clearly described routes and historic sites are key features. There are also views over the Tigullio, slopes planted with olive trees and vines, and a stage of the Ciclovia dell'Ardesia. This offers different starting points for a trip focused on scenery, outdoor activity or local history.

Scenery and views

Olives and vines grow on Coreglia's sunnier slopes. The road to Passo della Crocetta climbs between terraces, gardens and orchards. The Cappella della Misericordia stands at the pass, offering panoramic views over the Tigullio. The Chiesa di San Martino complex and its forecourt also offer a panoramic view, this time over the valley below, especially at night. Both the view over the Tigullio and the valley view are therefore associated with specific places.

Hiking trails and cycling route

The Anello di Coreglia is a 12 km hiking trail. It starts at Pian dei Manzi, near the town hall, passes through Coreglia Ligure to the ridge at Passo di Coreglia, and continues to the Santuario di Montallegro. The return route goes via Passo di Canevale, Canevale and Pian di Coreglia, then follows the Sentiero Chichizola back to Pian dei Manzi. The distance gives you a concrete indication of the length of the loop, while the named places and passes make the route easy to follow.

The Sentiero “Giovanni Chichizola” is an important access route to the Santuario di Montallegro from Fontanabuona, passing through the village of Canevale. The Sentiero Chichizola is also part of the described return route on the Anello. This distinction is useful when choosing a route: the Anello is described as a 12 km loop with a return leg, while the Sentiero is described as an access route to the Santuario from the direction of Fontanabuona. Coreglia Ligure is also a stage on the Ciclovia dell'Ardesia.

Churches and local history

The Chiesa di San Nicolò di Bari stands alone on a hill above Coreglia's former main settlement. It was first mentioned on 22 May 1147 and rebuilt in 1667. The two dates are just over five centuries apart and mark different stages in its history. The Chiesa di S.Giacomo in Coreglia Ligure is a 17th-century church on Via Canevale.

The parish of San Martino in Dezerega has existed since the 12th century. San Giacomo in Canevale was reinstated as an independent parish on 26 October 1622, after previously being subordinate. These details provide several points in history, from the parish established in the 12th century to the restoration of Canevale's independence.

Canevale is also home to a chapel, built in 1882 on the remains of Chichizola's house. Il Campo 52 was established in the first months of 1941 in the municipality of Coreglia Ligure. It was built in a large clearing between the Lavagna River and the ridge that bounds the hilly watershed. Together with the churches and parishes, these sites offer a glimpse of different historic places and their associated dates.
