Discover Gorreto through its landscapes, trails and local history. The scenic high plateau of Pian della Cavalla, the Anello di Fontanarossa e del Pian della Cavalla loop trail, and the visible fortified settlement structure each offer a different focus for planning your trip. Which of these takes priority for you also depends on the season.

Spring Blossoms and Trails

Pian della Cavalla is a scenic high plateau in the municipality of Gorreto, located in the Parco Naturale Regionale dell’Antola. It is known for the spectacular blooming of daffodils and other spring flowers. If you are especially interested in flowers and the spring landscape, this plateau offers a specific focus for your stay.

The Anello di Fontanarossa e del Pian della Cavalla takes about 3 to 3.5 hours and covers around 425 meters of elevation gain. These two figures answer different planning questions: the approximate duration gives you a time frame, while the elevation gain adds information about the loop’s elevation profile.

The loop can also be ridden on horseback; in winter, skiing or snowshoeing are other options. The same route therefore accommodates different activities and an explicitly seasonal choice. The route to Monte Alfeo starts in Gorreto’s main square. It first follows trail 111 from Gorreto to Bertone, then the trail from Bertone to Monte Alfeo. Check the trail signs and conditions before setting out.

Fishing on the Trebbia and Torrente Gorreto

The tourist fishing area “La riva di Ernest Hemingway sul Trebbia” lies in the municipalities of Gorreto and Rovegno. It starts at the turnoff to Rovegno, at the cable crossing at kilometer 50 of the SS45, and extends to the “lake” below the weir in the municipality of Gorreto, at the Enel cable crossing. Both endpoints of the area are thus described using specific landmarks. In the 2026 fishing season, fly fishing on the Torrente Gorreto is one of the options in the Gorreto fishing reserve.

Fortified Historic Center and Historic Buildings

The construction of Palazzo Centurione and the row of buildings along its façade created a planned fortified historic center, considered unique throughout the Val Trebbia. Seen from above, the historic fortified settlement structure, with a watchtower and several entrance gates, is still visible. These features make the layout of the historic center a subject in its own right, rather than focusing only on individual buildings.

Palazzo Centurione Scotto is an abandoned 17th-century building. Its black-and-white striped façade is typical of Liguria. Palazzo Centurione Scotto was once the center of administrative and economic life in the historic center. This former role places its significance in the history of the settlement in context.

The Chiesa di Santo Stefano is located in the cemetery area of Fontanarossa, within Gorreto, and is open during the day. Check visiting hours before your visit.

Getting There

The SS 45 Genova-Piacenza connects Genova-Prato, near the Genova Est tollbooth, with Torriglia, Rovegno and Gorreto. This provides a named road connection between these places for trip planning.

If you are looking for a hotel in Gorreto, you can match your planned travel dates to your interests: the daffodil bloom is a spring highlight, while skiing and snowshoeing are winter options on the loop trail. For a stay with hikes, the route to Monte Alfeo and the loop trail’s approximate duration and elevation gain provide concrete points of reference for planning your days.
