The Chiesa di Santa Lucia, the Grotta di Santa Lucia and the Sagra delle Rose represent different aspects of Santa Lucia: a religious landmark, a cave believed to date from Roman times, and a festival featuring a parade and food events. Other points of interest include the archaeological Fonte Nuova well, a public outdoor fitness area and historical route details for the Trail delle Rose. The year associated with the events and routes is important: the programmes mentioned are from 2025 and 2026, while the Trail details are from 2019.

Church and Archaeological Sites

The Chiesa di Santa Lucia is a parish church on a hill to the right of Via Palombarese in Santa Lucia di Fonte Nuova. It can be reached by a long staircase from Via Palombarese or via a side-street entrance. Its hillside location and the two named access points provide useful landmarks for finding your way. Near Osteria delle Molette is the site known as the “Grotta di Santa Lucia.” It is classified as a cave believed to date from Roman times. The two sites therefore have different classifications: the Chiesa is a parish church, while the Grotta is an archaeological site whose age is stated tentatively.

Another archaeological landmark is the Fonte Nuova well. It is located on Via di Fonte Nuova between Torricella and Quarto di Santa Lucia. The street and the two named reference points are therefore part of the location description. The well, the parish church and the Grotta are each distinct named sites.

Sagra delle Rose and Celebrations

The 48th Sagra delle Rose took place in Santa Lucia in 2026. The programme included a Festival del supplì and food stalls. The traditional parade of allegorical floats followed a route along Via Palombarese and ended in Piazza delle Rose. Temporary changes to traffic and parking were in effect for the event from 27 May to 9 June 2026. These details relate to the stated period; if you are planning to attend a later festival, check the applicable dates and traffic regulations at that time.

Another event with a specific date was the celebration in honour of Saint Lucia on 13 December 2025. A solemn parish Mass was followed by a time of prayer, the blessing of a statue and a fireworks display at the Grotta di Santa Lucia. This programme was part of the 2025 celebrations; its format may vary from year to year. Together with the Sagra, it illustrates two different kinds of event: a festival with a parade and food programme, and a religious celebration.

Routes and Outdoor Activities

The route details for the Trail delle Rose refer to the 2019 edition. At the time, a seven-kilometre section ran between Via Nomentana and Via Palombarese through Bosco Valle Cavallara, Bosco Mancini and Bosco Santa Lucia. The route in Fonte Nuova is listed as 13.2 kilometres for that edition; its surface was mostly unpaved and partly paved. The seven kilometres refer specifically to a section, while the 13.2 kilometres refer to the route in Fonte Nuova. These are therefore different route distances. If you are planning a tour today, check the current route rather than relying solely on historical details.

The public Area Fitness is on Via Palombarese, at the junction with Via Irpinia in the LocalitĂ  Santa Lucia, and has equipment for outdoor exercise. For a specific visit, it is advisable to check access arrangements in advance. The parish youth centre, Oratorio Alessandra Prandelli, is also part of the local scene: the Cortile Aperto project offers activities, workshops and social opportunities for children, teenagers and young adults on weekday afternoons. Its seasonal schedule may change. Alongside the historical sites, these community and sports activities offer other aspects of a stay in the area.
