Collegiove: Mountain Trails, Forest and Local Culture
Accommodation in Collegiove
Collegiove is a small mountain village in the Monti Navegna e Cervia Regional Nature Reserve and the Turano Valley. Meadows and dense green forest shape the surrounding landscape. The village is also a starting point for excursions to the ridge and summit of Monte Cervia. For a stay, Collegiove therefore brings together mountain scenery, named hiking trails and cultural themes ranging from rural life to a single archaeological find.
Hiking trails on Monte Cervia
CAI Trail 343 starts near Collegiove’s historic centre and leads to the summit of Monte Cervia. On the eastern slope, it first passes through scrubland used for grazing, then enters the beech forest. Along with its destination, the sequence of landscapes and the route along the eastern slope are specific features of this trail.
CAI Trail 344 starts in Collegiove and follows a scenic route via the Piè di Cervia spring to Monte Cervia, whose summit is 1,438 metres high. The spring is a stopping point along the way, while Monte Cervia is the summit destination. The scenic route is another defining feature of this trail.
Both trails lead to Monte Cervia, but differ in the features highlighted here. CAI Trail 343 is defined by its start near the historic centre and the transition from scrub pasture to beech forest on the eastern slope; Trail 344 is distinguished by the Piè di Cervia spring and its scenic route. This comparison can help you weigh up the two hiking options.
Local history in the museum and church
The Museo per il Recupero della Civiltà Contadina is located on Via Umberto I, in the former library next to the church. It is dedicated to preserving the memory of rural life in Collegiove and displays tools, household objects, clothing and games donated by residents. The different types of objects connect the collection to everyday rural life in the village.
The Church of Santa Maria houses a basin made of red marble. It was found in the hamlet of Colle Santo and repurposed as a holy water font. Both where it was found and its later use in the church are part of the object’s history.
The museum brings rural life to light through a collection, while the basin tells the story of a single object, from where it was found to its new use. Collegiove offers different cultural themes: memories of everyday life and the history of a repurposed object.
Local cuisine and stargazing
Cecamariti is a traditional dish from Collegiove, celebrated at a Sagra at the end of July. If you would like to plan your trip around this culinary event, check the programme for the relevant year before settling on a date.
The Le Rocche Valley is protected from light pollution and attracts stargazers and people interested in astronomical observation. For travellers interested in astronomy, this offers a different focus from the trails to Monte Cervia: in the Le Rocche Valley, observing the sky takes centre stage.
