Casaprota lies in the upper catchment area of the Farfa River. Its rural landscape is characterised by centuries-old olive and oak trees. Visitors planning a stay will find a variety of points of interest here: historic buildings, churches, and events centred on local food and culture.

History Between the Castle and the Palaces

Castello di Casaprota was built in the first decades of the 10th century. Palazzo Filippi offers a different historical perspective: the former lord’s palace was modernised in the 16th century. These two dates give a brief sense of how far back the town’s architectural history reaches and how it spans different periods.

An unusual detail links Palazzo del Gatto with a wine cellar: the palace takes its name from a mummified cat that was found there. Teatro Fausto Tozzi adds theatre performances and film screenings to the town’s cultural attractions. Alongside the historic buildings, theatre and cinema therefore represent different aspects of cultural life in Casaprota.

Churches and Different Building Periods

The parish church of Chiesa di San Domenico e San Michele Arcangelo houses paintings from the historic Chiesa di San Domenico in the centre of Casaprota. Chiesa di San Domenico itself is located in the historic centre. The names refer to two different churches: one preserves paintings from the other.

Chiesa della Madonna delle Grazie is also among Casaprota’s historic buildings. Its architectural forms point to the 16th century. Documentation from the 18th century records wall frescoes that are no longer visible today. The church’s visible architectural character and its documented decoration are therefore distinct: the frescoes are part of the church’s history, but can no longer be seen.

In Collelungo Sabino, a hamlet of Casaprota, Chiesa di San Clemente stands in the cemetery just outside the village. Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Nevi in Collelungo Sabino was consecrated in 1535 and extensively restored and enlarged in 1862. These dates mark two clearly distinct building phases: its consecration in the 16th century and a major later alteration in the 19th century.

Festivals Featuring Regional Food and Film

The Sagra della Bruschetta includes tastings and guided visits in its programme. These are complemented by visits to the 18th-century Mola Alfio Marri. For travellers interested in food and history, the event brings together culinary and cultural themes. The Sagra delle Fettuccine ai Funghi Porcini has been held for more than 40 years. It features fettuccine with porcini mushrooms as well as musical evenings.

The Premio Fausto Tozzi film series also features in the events calendar: it takes place in the last week of July and has been running for around 30 years. Andar per olio e per cultura takes place in November in the historic centre of Collelungo Sabino. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these dates, check the specific event dates in advance; the annual programme of the festivals may change.

What These Attractions Mean for Your Stay

Casaprota offers several distinct themes to help you plan your trip: you can explore its historic buildings and churches, include an event featuring tastings and music, or make the film series in July a reason to visit. Parco giochi Carlo Alberto dalla Chiesa has various play facilities for children as well as equipment for physical exercise. Facilities may change; check their condition before visiting.

Whether you are more interested in architectural history, food or cultural events, these attractions give you a concrete basis for considering Casaprota for your stay and matching your hotel search to your travel plans.
