Tamási brings together thermal baths, local history and outdoor activities. When choosing hotels for a trip, these different highlights can help you decide what you would like to experience locally: bathing, cultural attractions, cycling or wildlife watching.

Thermal Baths and Wellness

The Tamási Thermal Baths are open year-round. Their facilities include a sauna area, leisure pools and medicinal water; the bathhouse also offers a water slide park and wellness services. The range extends from swimming to saunas and wellness. Check the latest information about the facilities and services before your trip.

Churches, Gallery and Local History

The Rozália Chapel, dating from the 16th century, stands on Kálvária Hill. Another religious landmark is a Baroque Roman Catholic church built between 1735 and 1745. The different construction dates offer two distinct historical points of interest in Tamási.

The Tamási Gallery, located in the House of Cultures, hosts permanent and temporary exhibitions. The House of Cultures was created by converting a former prison. As the exhibition program may change, check in advance what will be on view during your trip. The Local History Collection focuses on the town’s past and complements the architectural landmarks with an account of Tamási’s local history.

Forest Trails, Views and Walks

The approximately 1 km, flat walking path around Lake Miklósvári is a short route option. Miklósvári Park Forest also has trails for hiking and walking. The hiking trail on Várhegy is designed for children and adults, as well as walkers and cyclists; information boards and family-friendly rest areas are located along the route. From the lookout point on Várhegy, views extend across the surrounding area to the vineyards of the Tolna wine region.

The 20-hectare Vadaspark presents the flora and fauna of the Gyulaj forests. Along a green-marked trail, visitors can observe large wild animal species found in Hungarian forests, according to the information boards. These include fallow deer, red deer, roe deer, mouflon and wild boar. The boards give examples of the species featured along this trail.

Pacsmag Lakes and Birdwatching

The Pacsmag Lakes nature reserve lies on the outskirts of Tamási, in the valley of the Koppány River. It consists mostly of wetlands, with smaller areas of woodland and grassland. A birdwatching program includes a four-hour guided tour covering 8 km around the lakes. From observation towers, you can spot species including ferruginous ducks, red-crested pochards, herons and great white egrets. The program is seasonal; check which dates are available before your trip.

Cycle Routes and Events

Two routes of different lengths are available for planning a cycling trip: a 6 km cycle path connects Tamási with Pári. The 10.4 km route to Regöly follows the Koppány River and then passes through the Pacsmag Lakes nature reserve. Check the route conditions before setting off. The Tamási Velodrome is considered Hungary’s only currently operating velodrome track; the banked circuit can be used by prior arrangement.

Every year, Tamási hosts the “Trófea Vadgasztronómia Fesztivál,” a nationwide cooking competition for game dishes. The Tamási Lovasnapok (Tamási Equestrian Days) are held as part of the August 20 celebrations. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the specific dates and program in advance.
