Pinneberg offers two themes to consider when planning a trip: cultural history and recreational spaces. Local history stretches from the castle first mentioned in 1351 to the 18th-century Baroque Drostei; the Rose Garden, fitness trails and Funkturmsee offer different attractions. If you are looking for hotels in Pinneberg, your interests can help shape your stay: Would you like to plan cultural events, spend time outdoors or include opportunities for exercise? The following places and features bring these themes to life.

Cultural history from the castle to the Drostei

Pinneberg was first documented in 1351 as the site of a small castle belonging to the Counts of Schauenburg, known as Pinneberg Castle. The castle stood on what is now MĂĽhlenstraĂźe and was the center of the settlement for centuries. The date marks the first documented mention, not necessarily the time when the castle was built.

The Baroque manor house Drostei dates from the 18th century and recalls Pinneberg’s earlier cultural heyday. As the cultural center of Pinneberg District, the Drostei hosts changing exhibitions, concerts and literary events. The two historic landmarks have different roles: Pinneberg Castle represents the settlement’s early history, while the Drostei combines Baroque architecture with a later period of cultural life. If you plan to attend an exhibition, concert or literary event during your stay, check the specific date in advance.

Rose Garden and opportunities for exercise

The Rose Garden is located in Fahlt City Forest and contains around 8,000 roses in 80 varieties. Rhododendrons, magnolias, bulb plants and perennials complement the planting; seasonal color lasts from spring through fall. These figures describe two different things: around 8,000 is the approximate number of roses, while 80 refers to the variety of cultivars.

Pinneberg’s fitness trails are open to everyone and complement jogging, Nordic walking and cycling. In the Waldenau district, Klövensteen has a forest playground as well as a fitness trail. This distinction highlights different features: the fitness trails are associated with several forms of exercise, while Klövensteen also includes the forest playground in its described amenities.

Funkturmsee, also known as Wollnysee, is in a recreational area and has two barbecue areas. It covers about five hectares and has a maximum depth of 3.5 meters. The area and maximum depth describe different measurements of the lake. Funkturmsee and Wollnysee are two names for the same body of water, so you can recognize both names.
