Discover Kölln-Reisiek: Trails, farm history and the Krückau
Accommodation in Kölln-Reisiek
There are several local highlights to explore on a trip to Kölln-Reisiek: trails through green spaces, the Krückau lowlands, a historic farmstead and agricultural produce. You can tailor your stay to the landscape, local history or seasonal produce. These themes offer different perspectives on the town.
Trails through green spaces and to the Krückau
The Krückau hiking trail passes through green spaces in Kölln-Reisiek and follows the Stabeltwiete and Widentwiete connections before rejoining the Krückau near the A23 underpass. The two Twieten and the river provide clear landmarks as you explore the route.
Although intended primarily for hiking, the route can also be used by bicycle. Some adjacent areas are flood zones, where the ground can be wet and your feet may get wet. Take damp conditions into account when planning. Shoes that can handle wet conditions are a practical choice.
Historic farmstead on Dorfstraße
A historic farmstead with two large thatched-roof buildings is located at Dorfstraße 3. The main house is a Fachhallenhaus with 13 bays; the property also includes a three-post barn with eight bays. This brings two distinct types of rural architecture together in the same farmstead. Anyone interested in architectural history can view the main house and barn as two separate parts of the ensemble.
The restoration secured the foundations, repaired or replaced structural components and exterior boarding, and renewed the roof. The renovation therefore included work on both the foundations and the buildings’ exterior appearance.
Herons and the Krückau lowlands
The heron has been Kölln-Reisiek’s heraldic bird since 1982. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a large heron colony in the Köllner Wried. The emblematic bird and the former colony connect the heron to the municipality in different ways across time. The Krückau lowlands are an important source of food for herons. Kölln-Reisiek also supports measures to preserve and restore the lowlands. Here, the heron links the area’s history with the importance of the lowlands as a feeding ground.
Farm produce at Köllner Hof
Köllner Hof grows fresh vegetables and organic-quality strawberries. The farm also offers a farm box containing its own freshly harvested vegetables; the selection changes weekly and follows the seasons. Köllner Hof is listed as a farm that has operated in accordance with Bioland guidelines since 1989. If you are looking for specific produce, check the current selection in advance: seasonal availability and changing weekly assortments can affect what is available.
Kayaking season on the Krückau
The Elmshorn hiking paddlers train on the Krückau as far as Kölln-Reisiek and go kayaking together in summer. This adds a seasonal water activity to the hiking and cycling options. Participation arrangements may change.
