Quickborn between local history and the Himmelmoor
Accommodation in Quickborn
You can get to know Quickborn through its local history, nature and opportunities for activity. Alongside St. Mary’s Church and several memorial sites, there is a nature experience area, the Himmelmoor Tour and an outdoor pool. If you are looking for a hotel in Quickborn, these different attractions can help you plan your stay. The following sections show how a visit focused on architecture, outdoor activities or swimming differs.
Local history through buildings and memorial sites
St. Mary’s Church was consecrated in 1809 as Quickborn’s first religious building. The Danish court architect Christian Frederik Hansen designed it. The Neo-Romanesque tower was added in 1863; the church has been a listed building since 1968.
The former road keeper’s house at Kieler Straße 7 is part of the historic industrial monument associated with Kieler Straße. A fountain at Börnplatz commemorates the historic cattle trough from which Quickborn’s name developed. The square was officially opened on May 6, 2026; check for current information about Börnplatz before visiting. A memorial stele for Paul Warnecke was erected and unveiled in Birkenwäldchen in 2019.
Trails, gardens and the Himmelmoor
The approximately 35-kilometer-long Himmelmoor Tour leads from Quickborn through meadows, fields and small paths towards the Himmelmoor. The Wulfsmühle mill on the millpond is a stop along the way before the tour reaches the Himmelmoor. Check current route information and trail conditions before setting out.
The Himmelmoor covers 600 hectares. After more than 250 years of peat extraction, it has been undergoing restoration since 1980 and provides protected habitat for rare animals and plants. The Himmelmoor has an educational trail with information boards and 15 activity stations; a historic peat railway offers another way to experience the moor.
In Quickborn’s nature experience area, an accessible path connects the sensory garden with the phenological garden. There, a pavilion provides information about phenology and current observations; benches and tables are also available. Check path conditions and accessibility arrangements before your visit.
Swimming and activity
At Quickborn’s centrally located outdoor pool, the non-swimmer and swimmer areas are separate; there is also a stainless-steel diving pool and a children’s paddling pool. A water mushroom, a current channel and a neck shower round out the pool facilities. The grounds also have a large sunbathing lawn, a football area, a volleyball court and a bistro. Before travelling, check seasonal access, current facilities and bus and train timetables.
Quickborn’s Jumping Point offers dodgeball, high jumping, tricks in the foam pit and several trampoline areas. Check current offerings and access requirements before your visit. The deciding factor when choosing between the two activity options is what you are looking for: the outdoor pool combines water activities with outdoor areas for football and volleyball, while the Jumping Point focuses on trampolines and high jumping.
