Ebersbach-Neugersdorf brings together the sources of the Spree, Umgebinde houses, and gently rolling countryside in the Upper Lusatian Highlands. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can make your choice based on the themes you want to shape your stay: source areas and views, local history, museums, or a hike. The town lies in the southern Upper Lusatian Highlands, right on the Czech border.

Spree Sources and Views

Two Spree sources are among the area’s distinctive features. The most abundant of the three Spree sources is in Neugersdorf, right in front of the Volksbad. The Bismarck Tower stands on Neugersdorf’s Hutungsberg. At 474 meters, Hutungsberg is the highest point in the town; from the tower, the view extends over Ebersbach-Neugersdorf, the Upper Lusatian Highlands, and North Bohemia. Access to the tower may vary by season. Check visiting arrangements in advance.

Umgebinde Houses, History, and Museums

Traditional Umgebinde houses are part of Ebersbach-Neugersdorf’s distinctive character. The area around Am Büttnerborn is lined with traditional Upper Lusatian Umgebinde houses and is considered the founding place of Neugersdorf. Another example of this architectural style is the Alte Mangel: this publicly accessible merchant’s house dates from 1782, was built in the Umgebinde style, and is used as a cultural and educational venue. As access arrangements may change, check visiting options in advance.

An iron pavilion, built in 1896, stands at the Spreeborn in Ebersbach. The museums each have their own focus: the Firefighting Museum displays historic firefighting equipment on wheels across more than 100 square meters. The Coffee Museum is housed in rooms more than 200 years old and has 300 exhibits about coffee, as well as freshly roasted museum coffee. Architectural history, firefighting equipment, and coffee culture are thus different themes to choose from for your stay.

Exploring on Foot

The Ebersbach Circular Trail is an easy, 11.35-kilometer loop hike. It passes through fields and forest, over Schlechteberg, and on to the FelsenmĂĽhle. The start and finish are at Ebersbach/Sa. railway station. Seasonal conditions can affect hiking; check trail conditions before setting out. The Bank Trail offers a different kind of walk: it connects a series of distinctive benches where you can take a break during a stroll through town.
