Panoramic Views and Legends on Kottmar
At 583 m, Kottmar offers panoramic views of the Bohemian Central Uplands, the Jizera and Giant Mountains, the foothills of the Ore Mountains, and the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape. The views therefore take in mountain regions as well as the heath and pond landscape of Upper Lusatia.
The 4.5 km-long Legends Trail circles Kottmar. Interpretation boards introduce ten legends associated with the mountain. Alongside the views, the trail also brings the stories surrounding the mountain into focus.
Starting Point and Special Experiences
The Legends Trail starts at the hiking car park above the Kottmarschenke. You can reach the access point from the Hirsch bus stop in Eibau on bus route 56. Check the bus connection and route again before setting off.
If you register in advance with the Eibau Tourist Information Office, you can take part in a baptism with water from the River Spree's source. It is led by the legendary figure Zwerg Gerbod at the geographically highest source of the Spree. As registration requirements may change, check with the Tourist Information Office beforehand to find out whether and how you can take part on your chosen date.
The circular trail and the baptism involve different planning considerations: for the Legends Trail, the key details are its 4.5 km length and the ten legends; the baptism requires advance registration. If you are considering both, check the bus connection and the possibility of taking part separately.
Excursions Nearby
Excursion destinations within a 20 km radius include Löbau, Herrnhut, Oderwitz, Zittau, and the Zittau Mountains. Options include museums and historic buildings, a summer and winter toboggan run, the Zittau narrow-gauge railway, and hiking destinations.
