Budenbach in the HunsrĂĽck: Roman Site and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Budenbach
Budenbach lies in a hollow in the Klingelbach Valley in the HunsrĂĽck, between the Rhine, Moselle, and Nahe rivers. The future Soonwald Nature Park is nearby; the traditional clustered village layout is still recognizable. The focus for getting your bearings is therefore both the character of the village and specific cultural-history and outdoor activities: a Roman burial site and a cycling route connecting Budenbach with surrounding villages and Simmern.
Roman Burial Site and Archaeological Finds
Four mounds at the Roman burial site are visible along a stretch of approximately 170 meters. Excavation findings and grave goods, including a coin of Trajan and fine Roman pottery, date the grave to the first half of the 2nd century. The four visible mounds show the extent of the site in the landscape; excavation findings and grave goods provide the archaeological context for the grave.
Budenbach on the Roman–Knight–Nuns Cycling Route
The 30-kilometer Roman–Knight–Nuns cycling route connects surrounding villages with Simmern; Budenbach is one of its stops. The Roman burial site is part of the route. The cycling tour can also be combined with the free ARGO augmented reality app. Check local route conditions before setting off.

In Kastellaun, the Museum of Regional History presents the region’s development from the Middle Ages to the Cold War. Thematic exhibitions, text panels, and original documents offer different ways to explore this history.
