Erbach brings together religious buildings, field and forest paths, and a campsite on the edge of the Hochwildschutzpark wildlife park. For planning your trip, the distances to the A61 and B50, as well as destinations in the wider Rhein-HunsrĂĽck travel region, are also relevant. This lets you focus on local history, outdoor activities, or trips to the surrounding region.

Religious buildings and local history

The Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist on HauptstraĂźe is a rubble-stone hall church dating from 1730. Another building detail concerns the Chapel of St. John the Baptist: it was built in 1897 and stands beneath a summer lime tree around 200 years old. Its centenary was celebrated in 1997. Thus, the two religious buildings have different construction dates and architectural features.

Paths and landscape

Erbach’s well-maintained field and forest paths are suitable for hiking; the same paths are also suitable for leisurely bike rides. Path conditions vary by season. Check them before planning a tour so your plans suit the time of year.

Erbach is associated with a holiday region between Soonwald Nature Park and the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Binger Wald begins southeast of Erbach. Erbach’s holiday area provides local recreation for weekend visitors, mainly from the Rhine-Main region.

Camping and animal experiences

The municipality operates a campsite on the edge of the Hochwildschutzpark wildlife park. Erbach’s campsite welcomes transit campers all year round; check current availability before you arrive. The Hochwildschutzpark Hunsrück features, among other animals, bison, mouflons, emus, waterfowl, and wild boar. The selection of animals may change.

The Rheinböllen Animal Park is nearby. The “Lieblingstier ganz nah” program offers a 30-minute experience with a selected animal. Confirm before your trip whether the program is available.

Long-distance routes in the Rhein-HunsrĂĽck travel region

The wider Rhein-Hunsrück travel region has numerous hiking trails, including the certified Soonwaldsteig premium hiking trail. The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig crosses the Hunsrück via Kastellaun to the Rhine at Boppard; altogether, it covers 410 kilometers in 27 stages. Erbach’s local field and forest paths thus sit alongside a long-distance stage route with a published total distance.

The Rhein-HunsrĂĽck district also has extensive, well-maintained, signposted cycle paths along the Rhine and through the HunsrĂĽck. In the 2026 season, RadBus route 629, the RadBus HunsrĂĽck-Mosel, supports cycling trips on the Schinderhannes cycle path between Kastellaun and Emmelshausen, as well as on the Schinderhannes-Untermosel cycle path between Emmelshausen and the Moselle. These service details apply to the 2026 season; timetables in later seasons may differ.
