Beulich: Hiking, forest forum and history
Accommodation in Beulich
Beulich lies on a ridge between the Ehrbach and Baybach valleys, within the Moselgebiet von Schweich bis Koblenz landscape conservation area. This points to clear themes when choosing a place to stay: nature, hiking and local history. The Waldforum Roskerbach, the Römergräber forest cemetery and the Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius and Apollonia offer different highlights for planning your trip.
Nature and hiking destinations
The Waldforum Roskerbach is located in the Roskertal valley. This biotope was created from the former Beulich forest swimming pool. During its restoration, natural streams were reinstated and several information stations were added. The Waldforum is considered a water playground. Covered seating areas, several benches and a small woodland stage are also part of the site. Nature-related features and places to relax are found side by side here. Unlike the forest cemetery and the church, the focus here is on the biotope and water.
For hikers, the Eckmühle in the Ehrbach valley is a specific place to stop: it is a refreshment stop right by the Ehrbachklamm gorge and is a destination for hikers, day-trippers, families, cyclists and nature enthusiasts. Check the latest operating information before your visit. The Römergräber forest cemetery is a naturally grown mixed forest near Beulich. Six Roman burial mounds have been preserved at the entrance and can be visited. Guided tours are also possible; confirm their availability locally before your trip.
Cyclists also have a landmark to look out for: the Kennelbachkreuz is a wayside cross on the Schinderhannes-Untermosel cycle route near Beulich; the route passes right by Ferienhof Grieshof. If you are interested in a guided hike through nearby gorge valleys, contact Ferienhof Grieshof in advance to ask whether a date is available.
Church, local history and culture
The Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius and Apollonia is a hall church dating from 1748; its Romanesque west tower was raised in 1838/39. In 1853, the church received a Stumm organ made by Friedrich and Ernst Stumm. Two historical references, with different levels of certainty, relate to the parish’s early history: historian Ferdinand Pauly suggests that the parish was founded in the 11th century; the church in Beulich is documented in a decision dated 18 July 1212. The suggested founding date and the dated record are distinct historical reference points.
The Beulicher Platt project offers audio recordings with translations and information about village traditions. L'UNA THEATER in Beulich has a repertoire for children and adults. If you are planning to attend a performance, check the current schedule before your visit.
