Dreis brings together several reasons to plan a themed trip: the Orchid Trail as a nature attraction, routes for hikers and cyclists, and architectural and local history. If you are looking for a hotel, these interests can guide your choice of destination. The area's highlights range from seasonal orchid spotting to historical traces and a healing spring. Planning therefore involves both personal interests and practical questions about routes and travel.

Nature, routes and cycling

The Dreis Orchid Trail offers insights into seven orchid species, some of which are rare. Sightings depend on the season and may vary, so take this into account when planning your visit. Dreis is on the Eifel Pilgrims' Cycling Route and the Eifelsteig Säubrennerroute Experience Loop. Check route information before setting out if you have a particular route in mind.

The Salm Cycle Route runs through predominantly flat terrain, with a short climb shortly after Rivenich. The section from Dreis towards the Moselle is considered suitable for everyone. The route links the Maare-Mosel Cycle Route near Wittlich with the Moselle Cycle Route in Klüsserath. The terrain profile and connection points offer different kinds of guidance: the profile describes the character of the route, while the connections show how it links to two other cycle routes.

Historical traces and local highlights

Ramparts and ditches from a former Celtic hill fort remain on the plateau of Burgberg. A hill fort was a fortified place of refuge; the surviving ramparts and ditches illustrate the hill's former function. Schloss Dreis is known for its rare paper wall coverings; in 1774, it served as the summer residence of the abbots of Echternach. The interior of St. Martin's Church contains Baroque altars. The historical features differ: the focus at Burgberg is on defensive remains, at the castle on its rare paper wall coverings and former use, and at the church on its Baroque altars.

Another local highlight is St. Martin's Spring: it is a recognized healing spring and produces iron-rich mineral water. Before visiting, check whether access to the water and its use are currently possible. The spring adds mineral water to the area's nature attractions, while the Orchid Trail focuses on seasonal sightings of orchid species.
