Wershofen offers several different ways to enjoy a stay in the Eifel: wooded valleys and scenic views, a signposted hiking circuit, a road cycling route, gliding and the Kottenborn Chapel. When planning your trip, it can help to decide what you would most like to focus on: Would you like to hike, explore by bike, experience the landscape from the air or get to know a historic site? These themes give your hotel search a concrete focus, depending on how you would like to spend your days.

Hiking in the High Eifel

Wooded valleys, forests and views across the Eifel define the landscape and provide a setting for hiking and other outdoor activities. Circular Hiking Trail No. 5 is a loop route from Schuld towards Wershofen, passing through forest, along meadow paths and through rocky sections of the High Eifel. Its logo marks the route consistently in one direction. Forest, open meadows and rocky stretches give the loop a variety of scenic impressions. After disruptions, check the trail markers on site; trail conditions can change seasonally.

Kottenborn Chapel and the View

Kottenborn Chapel was built in 1892. Its depictions show Saint Bridget and Saint Donatus, who are especially venerated in agriculture. From the area in front of the chapel, the view stretches across the rolling High Eifel as far as Aremberg. The building’s history, religious imagery and views offer different ways to appreciate the site, both culturally and in terms of its landscape.

Cycling on the Radarena am Ring

The Radarena am Ring offers a different kind of tour: the road cycling route starts in Wershofen, descends towards the Ahr Valley and continues through the High Eifel. It covers 32.1 kilometres and 623 metres of elevation gain. Distance and elevation gain are separate figures that can help guide your tour planning. The route ends at the Wershofen, HauptstraĂźe 17 bus stop. Check the endpoint information on site before setting off; road conditions and signage can change. Unlike signposted Circular Hiking Trail No. 5, this option focuses on a road cycling tour with a stated distance and elevation gain.

Gliding over the Eifel

The Wershofen Gliding Club offers introductory training and guest flights over the Eifel. Flights are available in a glider or motor glider. Introductory training focuses on getting started with gliding, while a guest flight offers a different perspective on the Eifel from the air. This makes it distinct from ground-based activities such as hiking or cycling.

Recreation Area and Barbecue Hut

The Wershofen recreation area is a public municipal youth campsite for extracurricular youth education. A barbecue hut right next to it is also available for public rental; reservations are required. The indoor space can accommodate approximately 50 to 80 people. Facilities include a bar area, two refrigerators and a wood-burning stove; outdoors, there is a fire pit. The capacity figure applies to the indoor space. Fees and booking conditions can change; local rules may apply to the facilities and should be taken into account when planning.
