Blankensee: Cycling Routes, Lakes and Village Church
Accommodation in Blankensee
Blankensee is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Forests, meadows and fields shape the landscape; the entire municipality lies within the Am Stettiner Haff Nature Park. Several specific themes can help you plan your trip: cycling routes through the village and in various directions, two lakes with different main activities, and a village church with a long history of construction. This makes Blankensee especially interesting for travellers who want to consider nature, cycling and culture when choosing a destination.
Cycling and Accommodation
The Oder-Neisse Cycle Route passes through Blankensee. There are also cycling routes from here to the north, south and east. The regional route between Löcknitz, Blankensee and Ueckermünde provides further orientation: the Oder-Neisse Cycle Route is mostly paved and flat. When choosing a ride, both the route through the village and the section between the three named places are therefore relevant. Before setting off, check the local route and the condition of the surfaces; detours and trail conditions can change. Two perspectives can help with planning: the course of the cycle route through Blankensee and the regional connection between the three places.

Lakes and Nature
Obersee is about one kilometre from Blankensee and is suitable for swimming because of its water quality. Swimming conditions may change seasonally; check the current situation before your visit. Untersee is considered rich in fish and suitable for angling. The two lakes therefore have different main attractions: Obersee is primarily suitable for swimming, while Untersee is a place for angling.
Church and Local Culture
The church in Blankensee is more than 500 years old. In 1732, under the patronage of the Stolzenburg estate, it became a parish church. The tower was added in 1777 and later received a copper roof and a gilded weather vane. The building phases of Blankensee village church are also documented: the eastern part dates from around 1500, and in 1777 the building was extended westwards. Its history thus encompasses both its ecclesiastical function and several clearly dated structural changes.
The KunstKiosk was established in 2013 as part of an art project. Compared with the church’s long history of construction, it is a more recent cultural landmark in Blankensee.
Blankensee in Its Regional Context
In the wider destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald, the three nature parks cover almost 40 per cent of the district’s area. Am Stettiner Haff Nature Park is characterised by the undeveloped coast of the Szczecin Lagoon and its meadows, the forests of the Ueckermünde Heath, the lowlands of the Uecker and Randow rivers, and the Brohmer Mountains. The entire municipality of Blankensee lies within this nature park. These regional landscape features add a broader context to the local information about forests, meadows and fields.
