Heringsdorf combines the classic seaside resort setting with specific cultural and natural attractions. The pier and promenades give the town a coastal perspective, while Villa Irmgard, the observatory and the church add architecture, history and science. The spa and healing forest also offers a distinctive feature. If you are looking for a hotel in Heringsdorf, you can choose your focus based on whether you would like your trip to include coastal paths, architectural history or forest activities.

Pier and promenades

Heringsdorf Pier is the longest of its kind in continental Europe. In 1891, it was named Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge; in 1902/03, it was extended with the addition of the so-called Odin Bridge. Its naming and subsequent expansion mark two stages in its history.

Heringsdorf has a five-kilometre promenade on Usedom, which forms part of the cross-border promenade from Świnoujście (Swinemünde) to Bansin. The 12-kilometre beach promenade connects Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin, extends as far as Poland and invites visitors to stroll. Two distances are useful for finding your way: the Heringsdorf promenade and the longer route between the seaside resorts. This makes it easier to match the distance you want to walk to your travel interests.

Resort architecture, history and science

Villa Irmgard is a striking example of resort architecture and houses a local history museum as well as a memorial dedicated to the Russian writer Maxim Gorky. Architectural heritage, local history and literary remembrance come together here in one place. The Evangelical Church of Heringsdorf is also a distinct architectural landmark: it is a red-brick church in the Historicist style, dating from 1848.

The Heringsdorf public observatory is named after the scientist Manfred von Ardenne. He suggested its establishment and played a major role in providing its equipment. The history of science thus adds to the town’s architectural and cultural-historical attractions.

The Tschu-Tschu train offers a sightseeing tour from Heringsdorf, with information about the history, architecture, landscape, people and culture of the seaside resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin. It covers several themes that also define the individual towns, bringing them together on one tour.

Spa and healing forest: paths and activities

The Heringsdorf spa and healing forest features varied terrain, integrated activity stations and historic sites. Some of its paths are interrupted by motor skills or sensory trails. Both varied sections of the paths and individual stations and historic locations are part of the forest’s character.

Therapeutic walks combine mindful breathing, awareness and relaxation with the atmosphere of the coniferous and beech forest; they are led by an experienced therapist. Forest yoga with yoga teacher Petra includes gentle exercises, mindful breathing and meditation. The two activities have different focuses: one combines walking and relaxation, while the other features yoga exercises and meditation. Check dates and availability before your trip.

The pier and promenade focus on the coast and the history of the seaside resort, while Villa Irmgard, the church and the observatory appeal to a range of cultural and historical interests. The spa and healing forest adds paths and guided activities to this selection.
