Radegast combines village history, cultural sites and regional cycling routes. The settlement has been documented since 1224. The Radegast district also includes Berendshagen, Dolglas, Miekenhagen, Pustohl, Sophienholz and Steinhagen. Berendshagen Church and the named cycling routes offer specific points of reference for understanding the area's different themes.

Berendshagen Church: Construction and Restoration

Berendshagen's brick church is dated to either the 15th or the 13th century. Unlike this open question about its construction date, the bell casting is precisely dated to 1893. The bell hangs in a separate bell tower on the cemetery grounds. There is also a funerary chapel in the cemetery beside the church. This brings together information about the church, cemetery and bell at one location, without reducing the different dates to a single building history.

The church's more recent history can also be considered in chronological order. Repair work began after the television documentary “Village Churches in Need” drew attention to its structural deterioration. After the work, the church was rededicated in 2002 with a large community festival. In 2024, Berendshagen Church, its cemetery, the mausoleum and the war memorial were listed as historic monuments. Its history therefore encompasses both the different possible dates of its construction and the documented restoration and rededication phase.

Cycling Tours with Different Routes

The Gutshaus circular route leads from Satow towards Radegast via Miekenhäger Weg. In Radegast, it continues towards Miekenhagen and Horst before rejoining the Gutshaus circular route. The description thus connects the stretch via Miekenhäger Weg with a subsequent route towards the two named places.

The “Satower Land” cycling tour passes through Radegast, Steinhagen and Rosenhagen on its way to Gerdshagen. Shortly before Radegast, cyclists turn right onto Steinhäger Weg and follow it for about 3.3 kilometres. The tour can therefore be planned using its listed sequence of places and this approximate stretch of road. The Gutshaus circular route, by contrast, is described via Miekenhäger Weg and in the direction of Miekenhagen and Horst.

Cultural Venue and Getting There

There is a sports facility with a stage in the Radegast district. The open-air stage at Radegast sports ground is used for various cultural events. If you are planning to attend a specific event, check the date and access arrangements separately. This distinguishes the stage's general cultural use from the details of any particular event.

Regional bus route 102 serves the “Radegast”, “Radegast, Mosterei” and “Radegast, Neubau” stops in Radegast, as well as Berendshagen. Check the timetable before travelling, as schedules may change. This gives you a named route and stops to consider when planning your journey, without assuming a specific departure time.

Additional Context: Satow

Another area of interest is the wider travel destination of Satow. Satower See is located within the settlement of Satow and covers 6.8 hectares. Paddle boats and stand-up paddleboards are permitted on the lake. Check the local rules before taking part. The lakeside adventure trail is suitable for walks, hikes and family outings. Rest areas and stations and information boards about local wildlife, plants and regional history are also part of the trail.

The monastery church ruins, considered a landmark, are also in Satow. They date from the 13th century, stand in the middle of a park and define the town centre. They are among the oldest structures in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Berendshagen Church and the cycling routes in Radegast thus have their own themes of village history and route planning, while Satow offers a different focus with its lake, adventure trail and monastery church ruins.
